Last spring I had bought a flowering Lachenalia 'Rupert'.
After the flowering had finished and the leaves died down some months after that I had stored the pot in my attic, keeping it on the dry side.
But now there are appearing some tiny grass-like leaves.
I decided to check the bulbs in the pot and discovered three well-sized bulbs with a diameter of about 5 cm. They look very healthy and are starting getting new roots. The little grass-like leaves were coming out from the side of one of them. I've done a little research to find out how to care for them and found out that usually they are planted to start growing in autumn. I had forgotten all about mine until I discovered the new growth. I wonder now if I have started too late (we're almost January) to water them again like I've done now. I refreshed the soil and have put the pot in a warmer place in an east-facing window.
Have no experience growing Lachenalia...
I have no indoor growing experience with them, but they can handle light frost here in winter. I grow them outside (unless temp's are really harsh) over the winter. I don't have 'Rupert' (Brent and Becky's does though--probably good info there on low temp's), I just have several species. They all grow in small clay pots and can handle a lot of rainfall when in active growth for me--they really shoot up in early March and then go dormant for me by June (when it gets really hot here). I just put them in a closet and bring them out in mid-October when it starts cooling down.

Thank you Debbie for your response!
I wouldn't dare though to grow mine outside, being in a colder zone than you. I also found out that 'Rupert' isn't as hardy as other types (min. Zone 10a) I had it outside during the summer, but took it inside after that.
Mine also went dormant by June like yours.
I suppose when you had them stored in a closet, they were kept dry and when you brought them back outside mid-October they got plenty of water again ?
Now mine were kept more or less dry until now when I noticed some new growth. As the attic is not heated the place stays pretty cool from mid autumn on.
Yes, I keep them in a very dry location in summer (closet) and bring them out end of October where they get rain whenever it rains--I pretty much treat them like most Oxalis species.
