Ruby,

Thanks for the welcome! Good to know that I am not the only one down here in VA! I am hoping someone will set up a field trip a little closer to us! I would, but I wouldn't know where to go!!

Peace,

Yardville! That's only a stone's throw from Bordentown! Even if you throw it underhand! Sorry I took so long to respond. Busy weekend.

Yippie, lots of new folks posting. Good to see you Gardengirl. This forum is what I refer to as my "Home Group." For over a year, I never ventured outside of the Mid Atlantic Gardeners Forum. That is before I knew that there were so many other wonderful forums. I am now inivolved with several new to me groups and loving it.

Nancy, if all of your day lilies bloom, it will be a gorgeous site. Hmmm.....yep, a real crowd pleaser. Welcome aboard.

Hello to Kyrina. i am not sure if you would possibly be up for a trip to Lexington VA on May 31st or for a trip to Monticello sometime in early May or in June. These plus a possibility of a get together to tour the Norfolk Botanical Garden at some point this year.

We have a decent size membership in the Hampton Roads area, so a get together there is not out of the question. When will I find time to actually garden in between all of the scheduled Mid Atlantic Groups tours? ha-ha For anyone who might be up to doing some traveling, there is a tour of Longwood Gardens that is being planned for May 17th. This promises to be a good get together.

Very good to have new people introducing themselves, welcome everyone.

Ruby,

I am only 1.5 hrs away from Virginia Beach, a girlfriend and I went to see the Home and Garden Show there just a few weeks ago. Please count me in, I grew up in DC and went to the Botanical Gardens near the Capitol several times a year with the best ever Grandma in the world. We also had an Arboretum and gardens at Wheaton Regional Park that my kids and I spent lots of time at. I would love to get together with some DG friends!

So exciting to "see" new faces...whaa whooo!
No worries Michael...as you plainly will see my DG name IS my name...I wasn't thinking original that day...truth be known...it was just plain easier to remember...LOL. King of Prussia eh? When my folks moved to VA from PA in 76' (showin' my age here) we lived in Berwyn...not too far from you! Becky and I went up to the Phila Flower Show last year and had Cheesesteaks not once but twice within 24 hours...sad, but true (what's up with the cheese whiz though?)!!
Jeannine, Kyrina, & Paul (a neighbor - I'm in Stafford) more Virginians...yipeee!! (been "here" longer, sorry Michael)
!!! To anyone I missed a big ole welcome to you !!!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Oh, oh... I *so* wanted to get up to the flower show this year! I went a couple of years ago, and it was just unbelievable. I don't suppose anybody wants to drive up this week... through Frederick... any day but Friday... LOL!

I know, there's always next year. And next year, maybe we'll have Ken with us!

Crozet, VA

Wow, will have to do a bit of homework here and look at the Norfolk website and see what special events are going on there. I hope that there is not too much involved in getting a group together and organized, because I don't know if I am up for that. I have health issues that sometimes interfere with energy level. That said, we will keep things alive and keep things being talked about and I am sure that we can figure something out that will satisfy our desire to see some blooms.

At the moment the only "tour" possibility that I know I will be attending is the Longwood trip on May 17th.
(Hired my house sitter for that weekend yesterday Chris.) Also on the burner is the Open House at Rick's Custom Nursery in Lexington VA on May 31 and June 1. There is talk of a group getting together to visit Monticello, home of past President Thomas Jefferson. And of course, I am hoping that at some point there will be a Plant Swap for all Mid Atlantic Gardeners.

I am wondering if I will have any time to garden this year. ha-ha

Where have I heard that one before? My "ex" was a carpenter and the remodeling of our home was a 20 year project! LOL DH had grown perennials for 20 years and when we met there were very few perennials in his own garden - I quickly changed that!

I've got a lot of catching up to do here. We've been so busy and I know I've missed a few new Mid Atlantic gardeners - welcome to all of you! Looking forward to sharing photos - spring is just around the corner and it won't be long before we're all out in the garden :)

Crozet, VA

And I am certainly looking forward to playing in the dirt. In the past couple of weeks whenever I am outside, I always find some little something to do that requires I stir up some soil. I love getting my hands dirty when it comes to gardening.

Come on Spring, we are waiting for you.

No. We wholesale to garden centers, florists, landscapers etc. Tried to talk them into setting up a retail site but after 80 years in business it's hard to change their concepts.

I thought you might have, as you knew about the sale. For anyother person that is interested in Rob's plant sale, here is the site...

Greetings Wise Ones!

We're at over 1700 hits on this post, so I decided to make a list of the folks that have surrendered thier roll call introductions. I've added the list to the bottom of my original post. If I've left someone off the list, please let me know, and I'll add their names. We have lots of folks that check in with the forum that haven't posted yet, and we even have happy_macomb who is welcoming folks, but hasn't given us the chance to return the favor!

Hint, hint! Maybe I can shame you into checking in, too! :)

Blessings on your gardens,
Elf

Audubon, PA(Zone 6b)

Hi all....... Thought I'd better join the group. My name's Larry and known on tomato & vegetable forums as cottonpicker. Strange name, you say, for someone living in Audubon, PA... a couple of miles from Valley Forge. Well, truth is... I'm originally from OK & TX. Grew up on a cotton farm in OK & spent my share of time in the fields back in the 50s. Graduated from OK State Univ. in '64 & moved to PA where I worked as a research chemist for Smith Kline & French Labs (now GlaxoSmithkline) for 38 years. Met my wife of 31 years there...she's also a chemist and originally from Hong Kong. I retired in 2001. Have been a vegetable gardener all my life... started with my grandparents & parents. My favorite veggie-- tomato! I trade heirloom tomato seeds on-line & also grow lettuces, Chinese cabbages, Bok Choy, etc.. chard, Ital. greens, mustard greens, bush beans, cukes & zucchini. I forage for wild veggies & we enjoy eating poke, lambsquarter & purslane. Looking forward to gardening in 2008 & will start my seeds indoors under lights very soon.
Good luck to all!!

some people "get religion". i "got gardening". i started with a front lawn which was about 80% weeds and have created islands of plants to draw the eye to beauty, not ugly.
i once lived in florida and have always loved palms. i have had windmill palms growing outside for about 3 years now and they do just fine. i also have banana palms which come back every year.
my biggest problem is lack of full sun. we don't get any. we have 3 wooded acres and i refuse to kill a beautiful, old tree just so my plants can have more sun. just doesn't seem right. so i have lots of beautiful plants that like some shade, especially toad lilies, columbine, ferns, cyclamen, etc.

i have many images of my babies on my website:

well, spring is almost here!!!!!!! i leave you with a pic of one of my toad lilies with a little friend. happy gardening all.

Ahhh, Maryanne! Your link was a breath of fresh air! Loved it!

Your Website is so beautiful--and has different music yet for each page! What a treat on this Sunday morning...
My immediate thought was that, come Summer, you may want to host a get-together/Tour of your amazing garden!

Welcome to out wacky bunch here!!! You are pretty close to me--I live in Perry Hall! Of course, Fallston is big and wide....How far up or across are you?

It is nice to see all these new people "registering" here. Elf--nice Idea that you started this....

a little get together some saturday afternoon would be nice, if anyone is interested. we could have a little tour, a walk in the woods, then some snacks and beers on the screened in porch?

I would love to! May is a ways off-but keep updating your plans as we get closer to that time. A cold beer always hits the spot!

Maryann, I am editing this to say that anyone coming would be glad to bring a snack or an appetizer. All you have to do is ask! You do not have to do another thing!!!!! Well---chill the beer, maybe???..:o)

Hi everyone! I came over here when Dave first opened the forum and saw
all you VA & MD folks. Didn't see anyone from PA or NJ so didn't come
back often. Well - you've changed my mind. I see a few familiar "faces" and
more PA folks. I hope to meet you on one of these day trips. Anywho...

Location: NE Pa

Employment: Engineer
Gardening Level: Not sure... been at it a while now so not beginner
Gardening Focus: LOVE plants. I ran out of grass to dig out in my last
property (small city lot in Allentown) before finding heaven in Berks County.
We're on a small farm. I have a greenhouse and am addicted to seed
starting. I love plant shopping. I love seeing other folks gardens. I love
showing other folks my garden. I have started putting flowers in my
veggie garden. Mostly I grow tomatoes there plus a lot of other stuff that
I fail to harvest. Someday I'll retire! I plan to finally harvest and cook the
vegetables. And play in the dirt all day long.

Very uplifting intro Susan. Good to see you posting again.

Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b)

Hi Susan, nice to make your acquaintance. I am another one who loves life & lives it to the fullest. I have had lots of health issues, COPD, A-fib, Blood Clots, Diverticulosis, Sleep Apnea, Allergies but ya know what? I have curtains on all my windows, I have a cute little rat terrier named Fritzie, my DH built me a pond & a greenhouse and there is nothing that can keep me down permanently. (we do use humidifiers and air purifiers and removed the carpet & have hardwood floors now) My DH, who also has asthma & allergies, & I do about 20 craft shows a year and I count my blessings all the time, and will be retiring from my job at age 65 at the end of this summer. I am so looking forward to that and spending more time with my family & my flowers & plants & critters in the yard. Welcome to the group. Buttoneer.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Nice to meet you also Buttoneer.... I believe if you let things get you down as some doctors want you to believe it will take you down.... Now mind you I have taken shots for 20 years and now I don't... I think I should again but you know what I dont' think so ... All my surgeries have been about my organs not wanting to stay where they belong... I have more mesh in me then I can count... They have used it to make slings for my bowles and my bladder after other surgeries had failed then I went in for a hernia repair about a year ago and when I work up I thought I heard him say 5 when I fully woke up I asked my hubby did he say 5? He said yes dear you now have a much larger mesh patch then before.... Hey you keep going...
Now that is not to say I don't get depressed at times I think we all do but after my son went to war for the first bombing of Iraq I almost lost my mind... Then I found a very good head doc and she has helpped me in more ways then one.... I am a much happier person for it and by the grace of God my son made it home two times from the hole.... I wish they all could come home.
So sorry I chewed your ear by nice to meet you...
Hugs,
Susan
