First spring plant catalogue and burnt fingers

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm guessing the oak has more of the oil per sq inch or something in that case. Zantac and Pepcid and others, are anti-histamines. That's scary, Polly! If it's inhaled, it is very difficult to treat.

I don't have any insurance because I stay at home and take care of dad and it cost me almost $200 to go to the doctor for that poison oak!

I've been rescuing grape ferns out of the partial woods that's left before they put houses in right by our field and I used plastic bags on my hands the last time because I get it every time I dig a fern! lol It worked but I washed the ferns in dawn dishliquid before I handled them lol

It's a good habit to rinse your hands every time you come in - without soap. Supposedly that will remove most of the oil. It will bind to soap and move it all around and if you miss it when rinsing, you're in trouble. If I am pretty sure I may have touched PI, I use Tecnu.

New version: Tecnu Brutus?

Greenville, IN(Zone 6a)

Tecnu Brutus, I wrote that down and will look for some at the drug store, thanks, I'll try it :) I always try to wash my hands but sometimes I probably come in contact with it and not even know it and I'm always outside working in the garden.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

You're probably right, Victor.

I have inhaled it and had to go on steroids, when I was a child, and my parents were burning it.

You probably did know the histamine 1 and 2 blockers, Victor, but I never knew that you should take one of each for the exposure.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Neither did I. I guess that's indicated for the tougher cases?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Cute, Dave, with that Tecnu Brutus! Now you'll have some people believing that's the name of it!

Medway, MA(Zone 5b)

I've been told, by a chemist, to cleanse your skin with rubbing alcohol for P.I., instead of soap - same reasoning as Victor's comment.

The day I got into the poison ivy was a hot day and I was sweating heavily. That is probably why it spread all over me. I used Tecnu that day but it must have been too late. Eleanor

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Once you get it on your hands you will end up spreading it everywhere.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

LeBug, I was joking. It is just Tecnu.
