Happy Holidays Dave Gardeners!!!!!
Just wanted to let everyone know that I recently had some new seed packets uploaded, and are available for download to any Dave's Garden Subscriber.
The link is here:
http://davesgarden.com/files/seedpackets/
This was simply a hobby for me, to do in my spare time.
(Plus, it is a manifestation of my total 'perfectionist' personality being exposed.) :^)
Although they are far from perfect, they were extremely fun.
And, they may contain informational errors, although I researched each plant the best I could and included the info on the packet.
In any case, have fun with them.
I have agreed to do a few more for other people.
I certainly couldn't get covered up with request, but if you'd like, you can certainly D-Mail me.
(I'd rather tell you privately if I could or couldn't meet your request.) :^)
All Ya'll have a Happy New Year!!!!!
And here's to another great year at DG.

New Seed Packets Uploaded
Here's a pic of the backside.
The files are saved in PDF which requires Adobe Acrobat Reader.
If you don't already have that program, you can download it and install it for free from here.

those are awesome!! i did quickly find one that I could use.
I'll go browse the rest of them.
again -- totally cool.
thanks for posting.
Wow, I am very impressed! You did a very nice job and put a lot of work into those.
Thanks for sharing!
Karen
I can't believe you are talking about errors or being 'far from perfect'.
These are commercial quality (in fact, most seeds that I purchase do not come in packages as nice as these!)
These things rock.
Thanks ya'll.
I'm working on more, so once I have a bundle more different kind, I'll send them to Dave to upload to the site again.
Let me know if you have any request.
If so, Please also Dmail me the including picture to include on the cover of the seed packet.
Hope ya'll can use them.
Do you have a template that can be edited?
Well, I created the file in Corel Draw.
You have to change all the text around, and then insert a picture into the space.
So, maybe it can be edited by someone with some knowledge of Adobe Illustrator or CorelDRAW.
But otherwise, I'm not sure who else can edit it......
I'm not sure if I answered your question.
So if I misunderstood, then let me know.
Paul
I just love them
Great work
Way to go, Paul!!!
Kim
Paul -- I was wondering... if you could do more of a generic one, instead of really specific
for example... i see the Blanket Flower, "Sundance BiColor"
if you did say, just Gaillardia Blanket Flower, and even a blank line under it, so we could then write in the specific flower
same for Coneflowers, marigolds, Cosmos, and other common flowers that have a huge variety.
Sort of the way you did the Zinnia... more generic.
Terese
Terese, Okay.
However, what would you suggest for a picture?
If I did Gaillardia, then what would you like to see for a picture?
As you say, there are several different kinds......
I'm not opposed to doing several specific kinds - of the same species.....
I can do more, but I need to have several prepared before forwarding them all to Dave, as it's kind of a lot of trouble for him to upload a few at a time.
Or Terese, If you have specific seeds/kinds, then just email me a list of your prefs, and I'll make a few of your favorites.
Or just send me the link that takes me directly to the DG Plantfile.
Let me know further recommendations that you'd like to see on future packs.
Thanks everyone.
Thanks Kim. (Lily_love - fellow MidSouth DG'r)
This is really fun.
Paul
yea -- i know, i was thinking about the whole "image" aspect to that.
I was just thinking of a way so that you didnt have to do so many....
coreopsis is another one... there are just so many, and so many different yellow ones.
I'll think of a few and do some looking around in plant files.
Okay.......
I'm currently working on:
Tithonia
Gaillardia
Coreopsis
Maybe helpful to suggest really mainstream - normal seeds that everyone has to start out with. :^)
Paul
that was my thought too.... the more common ones apposed to rarer seeds.
I'll work on this tomorrow and pop you some Dmails.
Great.
I also just finished Asclepias tuberosa Butterflyweed.
Pretty soon, I'll have enough to send to Dave. :^)
thanks everyone for the feedback.
This is a DG-wide effort. :^)
Paul
I think if you could to Scarlet Milkweed too... that would be smashing... i know i have TONS of seeds...
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/604/
I do have butterfly weed seeds currently, but wont have my own seeds for 2 years.
Paul - Those seed packets are awesome! Thank you so much for offering to all of us as a download. I just love them!!!
I would like to see Scarlet Milkweed, too!
Others:
4 O'Clocks
Nasturtium
Giant or Orange Cosmos
Passion Flower Vine
Dill
Parsley
These are all plants I use in my garden for attracting butterflies. :-) Would love to see some of them made up into a seed packet, too.
Keep up the good work, Paul! They look marvelous!
Paul -- regarding the 4-O'Clocks, thinking to reduce your labor... you could do a lil collage of the various colors, then leave the blank line so users could just add the color for the trade.
that is another seed that is in abundance.
Okay. sounds good to me. Thanks for the suggestions Becky.
I had sent several more to Dave several days ago, but it sometimes takes Dave a while to get them up.
I'll keep you posted when I hear back from Dave.
Orange Cosmos was one I already sent to Dave recently.
The others will be new, and I'll be glad to work on them.
Terese, that may be a good idea about several pics on one envelope.
If I can get good cooperation from everyone, in a quick time, then I can include several pics all on one envelope.
As it turns out, every pic that I include, I must first get permission from the pics owners.
Some owners I hear from quicly, other owners, I never hear back from, and then I must search another good pic and get thier permission. I'll do my best.
Thanks to everyone who has helped in some way with this project.
(If anyone would like to put a bug in Dave's ear, ask him about more available seed packs.) :^)
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Paul
I'm sure Becky has some great images. I've got fuchsia 4-O'Clocks, maybe a yellow .. but as i got my yellow seeds from Becky, i'm sure she has an image.
you could also go into a forum, say the Hummer and Butterfly and post a request for images for your seed packets... i'm sure you'd have folks come to you, instead of vice versa.
Terese,
I'd rather not "throw" out an invitation for pictures.
At least not yet. I don't want to diminish or turn away any one's helpfulness.
But my personality would be torn apart if for instance I had two friendly people offering pictures for the same plant, and I'd have to choose the one that would work better. I don't have the heart to tell someone that I didn't choose their pic, over someone elses when they're so willing to help. I'd rather work quietly behind the scenes and if they choose to help - great. If not - on to the next person. No one's feelings are hurt.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I will definitely keep it as an option if ever I have dificulty in finding a needed photo.
I'll get started on the new suggestions, and get them to Dave in a few days.
Paul
OK... yea... i understand that... makes sense too.
i'll be looking forward to the new ones.
However, I would certainly LOVE to receive suggestions from our DG friends.
If you have a plant that you love, and have plenty of seeds, and like to trade them with your other DG friends, please give me more suggestions, and I'll be glad to make more.
Please include the DG Plant File links in this thread, so I can reference it when making your seed pack.
Thanks so much,
Paul
Good News everyone. Dave has added all the remaining seed packets that I've created so far.
So swing by and check them out and figure out if there's more you need.

Please keep a heads up if you get a Dmail from me requesting use of your photo.
Hopefully we can include a lot more new people's pictures. :^)
Again, the seed packets are in PDF format, and are each about 1.10MB in size (that's pretty large)

Paul
Very Nice Paul!!
I've already printed off a few.... love the way you did the 4-O'Clocks.

Well, I'm cross-eyed now, and I'm closing up the laptop for this evening. whew!
I've been adding to the list, and sending out permissions, and been meeting lots of new people in this effort.
Thanks again to all who have contributed in your own way.
This weekend, I spent some time getting a database together to help keep me organized as to what plants I'm working on, what pictures to include, and who's picture they are from, and if I have received authorization to use it.
That is the longest part... finding a nice pic that will work, and then getting a message prepped to send to the owner.
Once I have authorization, then I can usually put everything into place on the new seed packet, and get that finished.
We'll be uploading the seed packets at least once a month, so it will be another month before more are uploaded.
I'll be sure and post notice when more are available. Maybe this next time, there will be a considerable amount available.
Thanks again to everyone for your help.
Have a great week.
Paul
