Maybe I forgot to mention that I picked them up yesterday at Publix. LOL. But I did take them outside today to photograph them. ;-)

Hi pardalinum,

Thanks! When I saw them sitting at the end of the floral aisle I just couldn't resist the winter pick-me-up while awaiting the spring opening of my real lilies. They are lovely, but actually they smell surprisingly awful, not at all like the ones from the garden. I had them in a vase on the kitchen bar. When I walked into the kitchen this morning I thought the dog had experienced an accident.

Any idea what variety this is? I think it looks a little like my Sorbonne except maybe a tad darker, that and I don't recall Sorbonne having the white 'design' on the petal tips like this one.

Not Sorbonne and probably not Star Gazer which is more heavily spotted, I think :-)

Whatever it is, it's quite lovely. My guess is the fragrance gets too concentrated when confined in the house. Be careful of the pollen, it can stain fabrics.

This past spring I took a bouquet of Elegant Lady lilies to work to decorate our lab. After lunch I returned to find them in the hall. When I enquired about this one guy said they gave him a headache. Another said he felt as though he couldn't breath with them in the room. Apparently, too much fragrance for even a large room. I haven't tried decorating the lab since.

As for the pollen, I took a large bouquet of lilies mixed with hydrangea limelight to my client. I called back later to warn her about the pollen. She said she had already found out - the hard way. Luckily, she was wearing jeans and wasn't too concerned about getting it on them. Whew!

Thanks, magnolialover,

I just couldn't resist, and it was the truth, after all. I was wondering how many die hard lily fans wound be thinking, "lilies blooms there in winter? I have to move"
:-)

Thanks, Moby,

I thought the bouquet of lilies would brighten my house a bit and tide me over, but now I think they are making me even more eager for spring.

Count me in as one of those die hard lily fans!! :-)

Scutler, a lot of people are unaware of the fact many flowering plants bought are 'perfumed' to make them more attractive to the buyer~it could be the natural plants' scent, mixed with what ever they seller put on it, caused the doggy smell~ if this is one of those cases~
Enjoy from a distance then~lol
