Id Help Needed

Beaver Falls, PA(Zone 6a)

I bought this bulb on eBay as Casa Blanca. As you can see, it's not CB but is very pretty. I contacted the person I bought it from and they agreed that it was not what I had purchased. They promised to refund my money or send me another bulb AFTER they went on vacation and gave me a date when they would return. I did not hear back from them and emailed again. No response. Then I checked their pages on eBay and they had discontinued their account there. They were selling as Robin's Gardens.

I really do like the colors in the unknown though, and would love to have the name.

Thanks so much for your help,
Linda

I just went through one catalog and didn't find it. I'll try and find more catalogs and let you know if I see it.

Beaver Falls, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Arlene! I saw a couple that it resembled, but not enough to say for sure. Since the bulb was rather small this year, I look for the plant and the flower to be larger next summer. I've grown other orientals and it took several years for some to reach their mature size. You can see my hand there to get an idea on the size the flower was this year.

I've had the exact same experience with the lilies not attaining their full size the first year, which is understandable, but the color should be the same. I'll keep looking. Did you check Plant Files?

Beaver Falls, PA(Zone 6a)

I've been looking at on-line buying sources to see different pictures of the orientals that they sell. I was hoping that it would be easier to find than it has been. Perhaps its a no-name. I wanted to ask, just in case that someone recognized it.

See what you think of this one as a possibility.

Beaver Falls, PA(Zone 6a)

Close, but the ribs on the petals on mine are pink or white, not yellow as in the picture of Nouveau.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Good luck in your search, Linda.

Beaver Falls, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks again Arlene. If I find out what I have, I'll post it here. It's a longshot, I know, but I'll keep looking. Have a wonderful holiday and happy new year,

Linda

You, too, Linda. I have many without names, purchased as a mix, and where some plants I really feel I want names for, with Oriental lilies the beauty and fragrance makes up for the lack of a name.

I did go through all 32 pages of lilies on Plant Files, before I posted the link, and the only other one that could be close is "La Reve", but maybe it's me who's dreaming!

Sometimes I wonder if these big Dutch growers just get them mixed up. It could be an unidentified seedling that got mixed in with the Casablancas. I have had a few over the years that I never really could find an exact match....anywhere. That lily is beautiful, but does not exactly look familiar to me. I do like that rosy coloration though.

Then there's the times you can't find a match and you just give it a name yourself...a chance to name your own lily in your own garden ;)

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I agree! I name things unknown for family and friends and call it "The Family Plot", much to the amusement of others.

How about this one? Tiara from the Lily Garden.

I agree, it might be a seedling from a bed of Casa Blancas that got mixed in and was sold as CB. Looks like I may have to come up with a name for it this spring. I could name it after my granddaughter, Sweet Natalie. She would really like that and she likes the color pink!

revclaus, I went to the Lily Garden and saw that the write up mentioned that Tiara's anthers never open. I take that to mean that it doesn't produce pollen, right? My no-id did produce pollen. Tips like that can help me narrow down the search. Thanks for suggesting Tiara.

Any chance it could be Marco Polo? I've seed pictures of it that were almost white to white and pink (like my no-id) and into a brighter pink.

Hi Linda, I couldn't find anything that looked like your bloom but Lily Nook has a nice picture library for referrence. You'll find a pic of Marco Polo here http://www.lilynook.mb.ca/library/library-Orientals.htm

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

That reminds me of an order I got a couple of years ago from one of the lily vendors, I think Lily Nook. They included an extra "gift" bulb which turned out to be lovely, and I wanted to order it again. But they stopped production and I haven't seen it for sale anywhere else. It was a dwarf Asiatic called "Garden Treasure"

Sorry for going OT.

Pictures of beautiful flowers are so welcome in December!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

I don't know about others, but "OT" confuses me! Going off topic is a way of life here in lily land. No apologies needed. :)

'Nymph' is one of my favorite ways to go "OT" ;)

I love its pristine beauty. One of my favorite all time OTs thus far.....

Moby is right.

GLORIOUS "Nymph", magnolialover. It's easy to see why you love it.

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Whew! I just checked to see if Nymph was on my Faraway Flowers Lily Bulb Co-op.... it is. After that picture it was going to be! Thanks again Magnolialover! That picture is breathtaking!!!!!!!!!!!

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I really hate to go on and on about 'Nymph' ;) but it really is so beautiful and holds up so well, even in these hot boiling summer conditions. The unique coloration for this OT is what I love too, there's really nothing else quite like it, not that I have seen anyway) It's both soft and strong, wonderfully scented. ( I might add that that co-op price is a steal.)

We all need the glimpse of a few lilies to make these cold days go quicker.

Just getting back to the original topic here... Could the Ebay seller name have been Robyn's Gardens, by chance?

Beaver Falls, PA(Zone 6a)

Hi Moby and Merry Christmas. Hope the daylilies are still doing well for you. The "Wilds" that you sent me are going gang-busters!

Thanks for correcting my spelling Mainiac. Indeed it was Robyn's Gardens. I had also bought two daylilies from them - Purely, and Platinum Palette Freedom Ring ( a hard to find Allen Wild that I just love and have seen in person). Both the daylilies bloomed and they were correct. I hate to buy only one thing at a time and like to save on shipping costs. Have you had any dealings with this seller or know anything about them?

I admit I was disappointed when Casa Blanca turned out to be wrong since it was a replacement for one that I left at our old house when we moved. But I do indeed like the new one and will be eager to see how it does in the coming years. I have a neighbor who has a full grown Casa Blanca and it's HUGE, as well as beautiful. Very fragrant too. I had no idea that CB could get that tall since mine was only in its second year when we moved.

magnolialover, Nymph is indeed a beauty. Thanks for posting the picture and giving us more to add to our Wish List for next year!

I am not sure if this means anything, but if you do a "google" search for Ednie Lilies, you will see thread refering to Robyn's Gardens. I am wondering if they are affliated? Ednie is the one doing the Gemini-Sage's Co-op on the Co-op Forum...

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Thanks Linda, my daylilies are doing really well.

Mags has her Nymph ~ I feel the same way about Zagora. The texture of the petals feels like the finest leather and the color is.... the reddish part is sort of translucent, like it's lightly airbrushed just on the surface. Nice scent too.

Stop it! You are killing me!!!!!!!!!! Well..................................at least I'll die happy and........with Zagora also in my garden, but alas not this year :>(

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Beautiful coloring on that one, Moby, and it reminds me a bit of Red Hot Lily. I like that glowing salmon color.

You do know that I really don't want you to stop !!!!! It hurts so good I can hardly breathe over these beauties, they literally take my breath away!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

Oh come on Sue ~ you know I help to keep most of your addictions fed, alive and well. ;)

(Sue) South Central, IA(Zone 5a)

Yes Mary, I do know that you keep most of my addictions fat and healthy. Ah...lilies and chocolate....

Maniac,

It appears Wooden Shoe carried some of Robyns products along with Ednies.

Ednie is a wholesale bulb company supplying bulbs mainly for cut flower production. This company has been in or business since the 1800s. I personally have been doing business with Ednie for about 14 years. I order a few hundred dollars of lilies and other bulbs yearly, and have ever only had one set of 25 lilies that was wrongly named. I have never seen any reference to Robyn's Gardens, and doubt they have anything to do with Ednie.

(Judith) Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

That Zagora lily is one I simply must have! And this year I'm trying the Red Hots for the first time after coveting them for the last couple of years. I can't wait! They're beautiful, much prettier than the online catalog pics, pirl.

Poland, ME

Further Google research indicates that there is a Robyn's Garden nursery in Scranton PA. It appears that there is no affliation with Ednie's.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

They really are just that beautiful, revclaus. Now, of course, I wish I had ordered more of them.

Shocking was a new one for me in 2007 and I loved it.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

'Red Hot' is beautiful, but the color is much paler here with the hotter weather we have. I much prefer its look in your climate ;)

'Zagora' is nice. I think I remember buying that one on a whim at a cheap place(early in the season, when I was desperate for green) and what was suppose to be it, was something else (surprise).

Another one that particularly surprised me with how large the flower turned out to be was 'Holland Beauty'. The color held up really well too.

Thumbnail by magnolialover
(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

That's beautiful, too.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Pirl,

That Shocking is beautiful. It must have been a well grown lily to have that many blooms the first year.

Magnolialover,

That Holland Beauty is a beauty.

I love the substance of those OTs.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Shocking came from Ednie's via a gardening angel.

Linda, here is a pic of my Marco Polo. Not saying that this is a match for your unknown, just giving you another comparison. You may just have a lovely unnamed lily.

Back to the stuffing. Have a great Christmas everyone.
