Snuggling with his big sister.
"Where have all the PNWers gone"
He's getting bigger already!!!!
Yeah, Gwen. I know what you mean. It was hard when Claire started college, but she came home for Thanksgiving, then Christmas, then Spring break, then summer, so we would just get to a point where we missed her pretty bad and she would be home for awhile. Don't know how it's going to work now, but I'm thinking she better find a 2 bedroom apartment so we'll have a place to hang our hat when we visit.
Sorry, Melissa, that you're going through this. But enjoy it now, the next thing you know you'll have the grandbabies for the weekend and they'll poop you out!! Tootsie and Gwen, puppies must be practice for that part, LOL.
Rachie - how cute is Scrappy? Looks like he's not having any problems adjusting. And his big sister is so good to him.

His monkey accomplice looks very blissful, too.
He is one very content little boy :0)
happy fella! I'm worried about our cat right now .... he followed us on a walk - he kept meowing at us to go home. He finally turned around at The Garden Corner and ran back up the hill, but we haven't seen him.
I hope he's ok, we took him in a couple of years ago (he's was a stray, really sweet) we got him fixed, shots., etc but he won't accept being inside... just howls and cries to get out.
About 8 months ago he was gone for 2 days - the kids were all upset. Come to find out, he was 2 doors down sleeping in our neighbors guest room living the high life. She has 4 dogs and 5 cats, so didn't notice the extra furball.
I'm sure he's ok, but still keep calling for him.
Redtootsie- Sending positive kitty vibes your way. They just don't realize how much it stresses us when they go on those little adventures!
RTP - hope your little independent dependent is okay. I have one that used to be gone for a couple of weeks at a time - finding her was always a huge relief.
Hope he's just lost track of time while chasing those little mousies.

Hey gang I just checked the GardenWeb site and there is info about the Spring Green
Elephant Swap (March 1st) Jim must have taken our suggestions it is from 10 to 2, yeah!!!! https://auth.gardenweb.com/members/greenelephant
There are also pictures from the Fall swap. I want to know how Katie and Katye managed to stay out of the pics!? They managed to snap Pixy, Susy and myself. Why is it they always get pics of ones backside or a sideview? Can you tell I'm having a little PMS, grrrr. :0)
Here is the thread I started for the Spring Swap. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/800961/ Check it out when you get a chance. Rachel
Oooooh. Rach, you are so on top of things. That's so funny - I was on the swap site yesterday and it still had last year's date . . .
Thank goodness - no pics of me from the back. That has to be a first. It must be because I spent my childhood be photographed by my amateur photog father in my pajamas and curlers . . . I paid my dues. :-)
Thanks for starting the thread. Hmmmm . . . what will I bring?
Rachie - it's all about being observant & staying BEHIND the one with the camera!!!
Butt-shots - For Pete's sake - why???
Katye- I was so darn busy slobering over plants I didn't even notice the photographer until she told me to smile as I offered a lady a muffin! Well I look at it this way, having a big butt is good when you are trying to block someone elses view of a plant that you want!! :o)
Aaaagggh! So, in other words, being two hours late wasn't enough to get out of being in the pictures, dang it! ;) (I hatehatehate being photographed....) Sigh, well, at least most people won't know it was me, lol!
And, might as well go ahead and have that other truffle I've been eyeing all evening... ;)
edited to add-nice picture of Carla, and lots of pictures of Pixy and her mom-they turned out pretty well. Rachel, you have a nice smile in that one picture and you're standing up-always a plus, lol...

I say we get to photoshop ourselves before they post them next time! :0) Hehehehehe, says the little fairy on my shoulder.....
Yeah - a new use for my big butt, to block plants ha ha ha ha ha!
**Tiger came home about 10pm wanting some love and attention. Thanks for the good vibes !
He came home for the NY celebrations!!
BEST WISHES TO ALL OF YOU FOR THE NEW GARDENING YEAR!!
yayy Tiger! Glad to know he's home safe & sound
Hi all,
I am entering this thread late, so yes I have been rather absent lately - though I joined a Round Robin Tomato trade, and am eagerly awaiting the seeds!
cattledogs & Rachel: Heelers are one of my husbands favorite dogs, though we have never owned one. I am told they are very demanding & high energy dogs.
As for what I am up to, I spent yesterday going through all my veggie seeds and cataloging what I have, so that I can sit down and order without doubling up :) It took quite a bit of time!
Only two months until the spring swap?? How can that be true?
I didn't even know there was a photographer at the swap. She got a nice photo of my mom and me, which is highly unusual. Next time mom will know that if there is something she wants, she needs to grab it. The swap is really close to where she lives, so she met me there to say hello. Then could not believe that people were actually 'giving away' all of those plants! LOL! She is not a gardener. She has no idea that when plants multiply, you must DO something with the extras.
Rachel, that's a good photo of you giving muffins away.
Okay, I don't know who's who in those pictures, but I thought everyone looked gloriously happy... and I didn't notice any big butts, either.
I'm happy to see other ladies with strong arms and Pacific NW hair, like mine!
Susy- For the life of me I can't find a picture with Carla in it. Which one is it? Thanks, Rachel
Edited to add: Duh, I just figured it out! It's the one of you getting plants out of your car for her! To much fresh air for me today!

Funny - I just figured that PNW hair was big and frizzy (like mine). LOL.
PNW hair IS frizzy, all you have to do is go outside to re-style. Even those of us with flat, straight hair in warmer and dryer places.
I had a boyfriend once who said that my hair didn't get longer, it just got bigger (and he was right). LOL.
I would enjoy a little frizzy, thank you very much - mine stays stick straight and limp. If I use the dryer and curling iron I have a bit of body for a few minutes. That's about it.
Happy New Year, all.
Murmur - I am with you - My father has preraphaelite waves, big galumping waves and heavy hair. Did any of us get that? Nope - we all got mum's skinny, straight fine hair. Pahh, genes. I'd prefer shopping. (Do you ever dream of really bobbing your's? I'm getting desperate - its almost waist length so that I can pin it in a knot and get it out of the way - but I think I am going to give it the chop - I feel like I look like glinda's haggard sister - I'm sure they would never have had to make that dreadful second version of Oz if they had just given the poor woman a good make-over!) Send encouragement.
Ah, good company in murmur and Laurie. The answer to stick straight hair with no body: damage and layers. I finally found someone in Lakewood who can cut my hair. I am really never going to be that girl who spends more than 5 minutes on hair, so I have to see that mine has a certain amount of damage in the form of highlights, and plenty of layers. Then it will actually hold a shape for more than 5 minutes. Don't go by the photo above. I had not had a cut in several months.
Laurie, I say bob it. But not too short. Maybe shoulder length? Waist length sounds way too hard to take care of.
It's going to be almost 50 degrees today! Plus, not raining. Time to be outside!
Laurie - mine was "sit-on" length for a long time. After shutting it in the car door, having it careening out the window while driving, and the general weight of its mass - I chopped. I did this in steps, though, as I knew I'd be in an emotional upheaval if it went from long to short.
Finally, arrived at shoulders & then: layers happened. Pixy was correct: damage & layers for stick straight hair. However - when it starts to come in grey, it will have a unique texture & most likely quite different from "fine-stick-straight".
I like to damage mine monthly with colour, and keep it just long enough for one of those alligator clips - they were an invention that deserve a place alongside Ipods & cell-phones. Particularly for those of us that pursue gardening.
I've had mine all lengths over the years. I must say that I do like having it long, I'm a Leo and must have my mane, it's a goofy security thing. When I'm stressed or nervous I twirl it around my finger. It's bra strap length that way I can just pull it back and go and on the very rare occassion that I feel like doing it I can. I got my dad's natural wave so if I dry it straight as soon as I walk outside it curls. So I usually just let it air dry on it's own. Who has time for hair anyhow, it's just going to get dirt and pine needles in it when I go outside. Hubby always chuckles when I get out of the bath and there are little sticks and pine needles swirling towards the drain.
Laurie- I'm with Katye take it in stages and keep some length, enough that you can pull it back when gardening. I wacked mine all of at once and it was very traumatic. Rachel
Murmur- Your long blonde hair is gorgeous! As women we are never happy with our own hair. Guess that's just the way it is :0)
thanks for updating faces & names for me.... my hair is the curly kind - and mostly frizzy - why bother curling it if it's just going to frizz up when I go outside. Sounds like Katie59 and i have matching hair.
RachieRabbit, its amazing what we bring in on our heads!
Hi Rachel, Yes, my hair is naturally curly and artificially de-frizzed....;) I use all sorts of stuff to keep it from frizzing out on me, to varying success. I think the coloring I'm doing has straightened it a little, too. Plus, the length is important. I've got stages that with a bad haircut it just fuzzes up all over. At the right length (longer than I've got it now) it will curl in ringlets on a good day, but it's hard to maintain otherwise.
A few years ago, just to see how long it would grow, I grew mine out to where the ends reached my butt when pulled straight. It was fun, but I don't think it's as healthy when it's that long.
Ok, naptime for me. Finally get dry days and what happens? I get sick. I've been up for about two hours, and I'm running out of steam. :(
Hope you feel better Suzy. Lots of liquid and rest. Hugs, Rachel
Dream about the garden in Spring, Susy! That always make me forget how poorly I feel.
Ha! I weeded today: not for long, but while I was doing so, I realized how badly I have missed the fresh air & getting my hands in the soil. It smelled so good outside today, and the plants are still trying to push out new growth - particularly the roses!
Hope you all are rested & ready for this year. It has to be better than 2007!
If I didn't know better, I would say that you ladies are bragging about your naturally curly hair!! What some of us need chemicals to accomplish, others are born with naturally! Rachel has awesome hair. I'm a leo, too, but in order to get any kind of a 'mane' look, it must be beat into submission. My hair knows who is boss as long as I have highlights and layers. Otherwise, my hair and I have an uneasy relationship.
I had several hours in the garden today and I wasn't even cold. I'm feeling mightly smug about my compost lately. I dug down in the pile and there is the most beautiful compost sitting right there in my bin. Glorious!
Suzy, sorry to hear you are under the weather. I hope it passes quickly. Katye, yes, we are due a nice summer. It's our turn.
I think there is not alot of theings that are better for winter deprssion that gardening and getting tired. its funny how quickly one can get out of shape. It is also amazing how fast the garden can go from pretty fall leaves to looking terrible. I try to putter a little bit each day or it is overwhelming.
Rachel to scappy who if he ever needs a home si sure welcome here. I was going to Dave garden and on the top of the page was something on heelers and it was trainpetdog.com/cattledogs. One thing we have learned is that they are not very social and at a young age I would bring him everywhere and they also aren't very good with children, We have had 8 and I really watch them all some are worse than others. Our first group was terrible and this second group we got we aked out neighbors who had children please bring the kids over with the puppies. Today our neighbors came over and we haven't seen the kids in years but they remembered them.. They are ok but ot great. A strange kid would not have been accepted today like the neighbors kids. Eventhough this is a little puppy and friendly rmember they have dingo and kelpie both wild dogs and dalmation and rat terrier and smooth collie. In that breedingsometimes one of those breeds isstronger than the other. And hopefully scrappy isn't an ankle nipper. We only have one who is. Kookie was an ankle nipper and lyn used apple bitter on her heels a few times and that solved that problem. They are independent thinkers ane can reason. I think they are almosrt human. Our vet doesn't like cattle dogs and she did her residency in cattledog county and she said they are the smartest breed she has even seen but they are so smart that they take alot of work. They can reason and think out things. Maybe this is why I don't have children this group is like kids. I hope we all have a great 2008 and am checking to see if any of my seeds have sprouted. oh yeah.
