I have read that some Angels wait until the flowers are all ready and then all bloom together ...I gues that is natures way of multiple success at setting seed ...more chance of a happy moth skipping from flower to flower ...a watched bloom never ...lol
chrissy :)
Is this the beginning of a bloom???
So Happy.
They look great and you are not going to be able to stay away from the beauties. Congratulations.
(Is that snow I see out the window)?
It is terrible here, but my brugs are safe inside.
:) Smiling Broadly,
Marie
Oh, Happy Valentines day everyone. Love sent out to all.
Maire, that is snow. I don't think we have seen the ground since Thanksgiving. Only good thing is the temp keeps going to single digits and that provides some protection.
I am so excited about the bloom
We have more snow than we have had in years. One of my co-workers if from Florida, He is so depressed, wants some green.
I have 2 buds about ready to burst into flower. I am very excited. My plants are greening up, but no sign of buds on any others.
Post pictures as they bloom please.
I feel for your co-worker from Florida, it is tuff on DG to see all the folks from the south start talking about what is coming up and what they are planting and we still have single digits and snow.....ugh
What brug of yours has buds?
So far only my monster whites have buds. Someone on DG told me monster whites were very forgiving and hardy. I don't have anything to compare it to since I am really a newbie......my first blooms......yeah
So I think I will nickname the brug Valentino instead of slow-poke since I might have my first bloom on Valentines Day....
Joyce
Yes, he was about goinging crazy with the snow and wind.
I got a start of Charles Gramaldi from a sweet DG'r last year. It is the one that has the 2 buds, ready to open.
I got a cutting of Monster White. One lived and flourished until I think I drowned it when it was out in the garage this winter. It is no more. I am rather sad about that.
Congratulations on your first blooms, they are beautiful.
Marie
Oh Thanks for posting the pics! How exciting! I can't wait to see how monster they are... Joyce give us a quick update tonight... please?..... And exciting for you too, Marie with your new CG buds! I've tried CG a couple times, seems to grow slow.. for me anyway, I think I still have one.. I should take inventory this weekend and see what is surviving down there, I'm thinking of bringing them upstairs for more natural light... I drowned my monster white the 1st winter I had brugs... We're all ready for the show, Happ! WoooHoooo!
Joyce:
BIG congratulations on your brug blooms!!!
Hi AuntB, not too much happening here cept snow, cold, wind-chill factors, snow, cold,..........................UGH!!! Springtime, where are you?!?! I WANT/NEED sunshine, warmer temps, green.............................. :(
Hi Jan! ME, 2. I neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed green. It's affecting my personality! Brown is so drab and so is dirty snow.
Oh my, they are about to unfurl! Tonight? The smell will permiate the house! How clever with the chicken wire, Marie! Bless you for cleaning windows every 2 weeks.... I'm giving up til Spring. Seems the closer we get, the more critters I'm spraying for.
I just looked at my brugs and they have spider mites on them, so now I'll try the recipe with soapy water on them. Do brugs get root rot easy? Tina
CG unfirled. Only 2 blooms, but beautiful in my sight.
I just saw Delisa's beautiful double pink and mine doesn't look that great anymore, but it is mine and I love it. Oh and the smell last night was wonderful.
Tina, I killed 2 of my brugs with overwatering. Folage spraying did the trick for my aphids, I was persistant though, once a day until they were gone.
Marie
Oh Marie! He's beautiful! He's a single and Delisa's is a double, both equally gorgeous in their own right. lol I've not smelled CG, but I'm sure it was intoxicating! I've drowned some in winter, but I don't think it's possible in summer time, unless you leave it sitting in water. Mites!!! YIKES! I'd scratch some Bayers 3-1 into the top of the soil as best I could... mites are nasty critters, I'll take aphids, anyday (and I do have them) I haven't sprayed everyday for them, so maybe that's the trick, thx Marie for the tip. Happ? Bloom progress?? I'm getting impatient... lol
Joyce? You guys okay over there? I'm trying to be patient. (She's probably camped out in the sun room, eye's wide, camera and spray bottle in hand, and only able to mutter...not form whole sentences... ) lol Just kidding Joyce;) I hope they're unfurled and you're enjoying the bloom goodness.
I am back. See what happens when you arent' home to water! I freaked!
My Mom was ill thank goodness nothing major but needed to spend a few days with her, she is back and great..
I figured the smell would be everywhere, but I actually need to sniff the bloom and then a wonderful smell, that is ok it is beautiful. The camera is making todays picture of the leaves look yellower than they really are.
Brugs are tough, this is the picture from Friday night. Following are the pictures from Saturday and today. Much better but a little yellow.
Joyce
Old yeller......today the leaves are a little more yellow, not as much as the camera makes it look. Snow snow snow predicting over 6inches. I use to live in Colorado and never got this much snow! LOL
Finally blooms.....it is beautiful, can't wait for the others to bloom and get a few more bugs...now I have a real problem....I thought I liked them before now I am sunk! I should have blooms for a long time. I still have buds coming on this one (as long as they don't drop from lack of water earlier) buds coming on the smaller one......such a nice break from the winter.
Joyce
CONGRATULATIONS! They are born! The smell is strongest in the evening..They are just grand! How long are the blooms? Joyce, they are beautiful... and tough, they should be fine. They wilt in summer as well. Sorry to hear your mom was sick. Thanks for posting the pics, and welcome back home to winterwonderland. We got ice and snow, it's melting off the trees, thank goodness.
This brug is just beautiful, for all of you who got cuttings you are in for a real treat. The blooms are giant size and as white as snow and I have lots of snow to compare it to....the blooms are just beautiful. The white part of the bloom measures 7 inches long and 6 inches wide, just beautiful. Amazing......
It's absolutley lovely! Sooooo delicate and feminine looking! Nice job!
Thank you. I am so shocked it went from so wilted to being so beautiful. Still don't smell alot, but thats ok...it really has alot of blooms on all sides I am just not a very good photograher.
Beautiful ! A lovely sight in this bleek wintertime :)
Congrats!!
Joyce, They are beautiful, I am so sad that I lost mine. I am glad they recovered so well for you. Good to hear your mom is doing better.
Marie
Joyce:
BEAUTIFUL big blooms on your Monster White---congratulations!
Marie:
I've got a BIG (5 ft) Monster White that I'm overwintering AND a smaller MW that is about 18" tall---both have bloomed for me so I can send you cuttings taken above the "Y"...but, as others that are overwintering brugs, I am being bugged with aphids :(
So, if you don't mind, I can do cuttings tonite and root them for you and then send to you when the weather is a bit better. AuntB, are you also looking for MW brug cuttings? LMK.
Puter at home is "fixed" but we still have dial-up service...not for long tho!
Jan
Will have more pictures tonight. It is just getting prettier and prettier, more blooms every night and the smell is starting to really come alive.
I am also being bugged by aphids but not on the MW, but on calla lilies and other things. It is making me crazy! Be so glad to see spring.
Joyce
Jan, I would absolutely love a cutting, and a rooted one, what a treat. Thank You so much. I am having a wonderful time with these things. What a hobby.

Mike-
I sent you a d-mail...
Jan
Marie-
Not a problem. I just don't want to send you aphids with the cutting so I will cut and segregate the MW cuttings while they root.
Jan
Jan, thanks so much, another sweet generous DG'er just offered me some. Mike, I've been meaning to ask, does the pretty brug pic you just posted have a name? It's so pretty. Seems all of us up north are in full swing with dreaded critters. Jan, what do you do for aphids? I've scratched Bayer's 3&1 into the top of the soil (2X). I've sprayed thoroughly with neem (2x). This seems to have knocked them, but I keep finding small new infests, I'm now spraying dishsoap/water and will try to do that daily. Spring would be the best cure. I did move my brug nursery upstairs for better light, they got saturated in dishsoap/water and then a tepid water shower at the kitchen sink with the spayer, then under the mircroscope (I got out my mature lady magnifying reader glasses), and then felt up each leaf in effort NOT to bring them upstairs to my hibiscus youngin's, then I sprayed with the dishsoap/water, again. I have a few starts that are probably goners, but I moved them to the critical care unit, and keep my thoughts about them positive and hope for the best. I had, I mean HAVE a couple very special ones (doubles), I SO hope they like their new environment. I pulled a few up and they had 1 or 2 little roots, so I can't pitch them, but they look pretty pathetic.
Hi "B"!!! I spoke too soon when I said that I had won the "battle" over the aphids :(
I'm doing what everyone else seems to be doing---giving the plants baths and spritzing.
OHHH!!! I do have a "good tip" re: mosquitoes. I read somewhere that spraying "Listerine" mouthwash on the surrounding ground when you're outside will "kill them"??? I just read it this weekend---so, anyone, "FACT or FICTION"???
Hmmm, maybe I should see if Listerine will kill the aphids?!
Our "high" temp Thursday is going to be a "below zero temp"---wind chills in the minus 30's. The winter that will not end!!!
Jan...who actually has a fan blowing on me at work cause the bldg keeps the heat too hot and dry (or, am I just suffering from permanent hot flashes???...LOL!)
