How much fun, bmedel! I will share later some pics..........off to get a propane heater for our big freeze this weekend...............I still don't understand the thrill from growing from seeds or leaves, but it just is a big thrill!
Photos and Chat Continues Here (2)
I have been enjoying catching up on this thread and the one before it. Some things I wanted to reply to I've already lost track of...
Gail... I am so thankful your granddaughter is doing better after surgery. She continues to be in my prayers.
The stories about the kids and grandkids made me laugh! The stories I could tell about my nephews growing up! Thank goodness my own kids have NEVER been that bad.
I wanted to share one quick photo of a strepp that has really kept me cheered up the last couple of weeks, when things have been so hard for me. This 'Bristol's Party Boy' just continues to bloom, and it is so pretty... I love it!
Take care and love to all!!!
Karen
She is beautiful, Karen! Julia is doing well although she is still running fever and they can't stop the IV antibiotics until the fever goes away........thus another night in the hospital. Thanks for asking.
***edited hours later to say i found something very strange. This plant came from a leaf from Iced Pink Flamingo but the leaves are not variegated and I have never even had a plant whose bloom resembles what this is going to be. There is a possibility that she was one from a seed, too.
I am taking it now in case it doesn't open .....after typing this, I realize I can't post the picture. Next post will be the picture

Karen- Guess I'll repeat my post from earlier as I don't see it any where? Strange... Anyway, I love the coloration on your strep!
Gail- What IS up with that bloom? Is it just not open yet? Looks like it is a nice color!
it doesn't have the appearance or even close to anything I have ever grown. I can't wait for the next bloom and see if it makes sense.
Karen your camera does such a beautiful job in catching the colors on Party Boy! I'm glad he's cheering you up!
Gail I was just reading on another strep discussion board that I came across about weird half flowers happening, especially with first blooms. They had no explanation for it, just that it had happened to several of them at one time or another. I guess they just don't have all their stuff together yet. :0) It's very interesting to see though, glad you took a picture!
I planted some of the Iced Pink Flamingo seeds today and also some of the "Strawberry Froth" seeds. Both pods coming from the plants I had gotten from you. I'll be awaiting those babies anxiously. Your right, there is such a thrill every time a baby pops up whether from leaf or seed!!
And thank you for the update on Julia, she has been on my mind often!

I am glad you read about weird first blooms as I have never even seen a bloom like that one on any strep.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Julia has taken a big turn for the worse. She has been on IV antibiotics since last Monday morning before surgery. Her fever seemed to go down yesterday and her mom and dad got all excited thinking that the surgeon had been able to get the infection in the gut cavity (the apendix perforated)............this afternoon her fever spiked and the surgeon is now saying he will probably have to go back in and clean out the infection again.
Cass said that he didn't do anything wrong but that they knew all along from the cat scan that they might not be able to get it cleaned out. My daughter said she took a deep breath when the surgeon said that and just made up her mind that they were in this for the long haul.
I asked my daughter if Julia would ever sleep in her crib during the day. She said, "Mom, she doesn't sleep in it at night". So I assumed Julia was sleeping in the twin bed with her mom all night................wrong! My daughter has been sitting in a chair all night long for 6 nights so far with her baby in her arms as Julia doesn't sleep more than an hour at a time. No wonder my own daughter is exhausted to say the least.
She wants me to wait and see what is going to happen before I come up there.
Oh Gail, I am so sorry. I just can't imagine what it must be like for Mom & Dad. Gosh, I have never had kids but my heart aches for what they must be going through and you too being her grandmother. It is so scary thinking that the little one will have to go through even more surgery. She is still in my prayers. How are the other kids doing? Doesn't Julia have a sister or brother? I know they must be really scared too. I'm sure your DD doesn't want you to come right now and just have to hang around the hospital. She might need you to be there later on when Julia is well enough to go home.
Prayers going up for Little Julia.
((((( Hugs )))))
Lin
Thanks, Lin
Everyone has been so sweet to care about Julia.
Thanks for your prayers.
Her brother is just 4 and loves his dad's parents who live down the street from the hospital. His dad goes home at night and takes him to the hospital every day for a while. His mom reports that everyday he is so sweet and tender with Julia . Then he looks up and says, may i have one more sleep over night? So, he is in heaven with his grandparents undivided attention and still gets to see both parents everyday.
That is why she wants me to wait to come as she doesn't know what is in store yet in the weeks to come. It really depends on whether my son in law has to work next week. This week they were both on vacation as planned. So, I suppose my going will depend on whether he can be covered at the clinic and the hospital next week.
Gail, so sorry to hear that! Extra set of prayers going your and your family's way. Nice that your g-son has his other g-parents there and that he's close to them.
Oh dear, so distressing to think of that baby having to go through surgery yet again! That is some really nasty stuff that spills in the gut when the appendix breaks! Julia has been so fortunate with alert and knowledgeable parents and thank goodness for modern medicine!! t must be some comfort with the parents being Dr's and maybe understanding a bit more of what is going on than us mere lay people. But still when it is a your own child??
I know it is so comforting for your daughter to know you are on call at a moments notice to come to her and help however needed. I hope she can really rest soon!! So glad the other grandparents are close to help with your grandson too!!
Plants are trivial when it comes to things like this, we'll be waiting for the next update!

You are the greatest caring people. I am going to start a new happier thread. I can come back to this thread for an update on Julia. OK?
