Temp rose over night, melted all the ice on the trees and most of the icy dusting we had on the ground, 38-40 degrees where it has stayed all day so far. They promised 50s but I don't think that will happen here. Light breeze with mostly cloudy skies. Prediction for falling temps and 5-7 inches of snow through tonight and tomorrow. Took advantage of warm day to replenish the deervick. They have changed the formula to work in all temps, I hope it works as well as the old stuff 'cause with all that white stuff anything green stands out like a buffet on a table. Deer are supposed to be color blind but leaves look much bigger in the snow to them I think.
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 8
37.2 degrees. Just shoveled as much ice outa the driveway as I could. That's it for me! We're not sposta get as much snow as you, ngam. Is it going coastal?
When the temperatures rose the winds came along so I never left the house. The work will get done when the weather cooperates.
52 and windy! That's shorts weather for here now.
We did have a nice calm sunny day, high of 20.
I did get my bulbs planted. Wasn't easy. Soil was still partly frozen. My fingers were numb! Forgot I bought two Amaryllis. I guess I'm forcing them.
Al - only shorts inside the house!
Good job, Victor! The Amaryllis grow so fast indoors. I just potted up another one yesterday.
Boojum: We have heavy snow warnings from 1pm -11pm tomorrow. The SE New Eng. area gets the most this time around unless they have messed up the forecast. If it goes out to sea south of here... this would not hurt my feelings at all. More mess on the way for the weekend. Yuck!
Also noticed some of those winter moths were out and about in the warmer temps today, I took out about 30. I hope the snow gets the rest of them, last year the long period of mild winter made for a very large egg laying on the trees around here, as if the gypsy moths and tent cats weren't bad enough.
Really!
Yeah. We are on the watch for some MAJOR snowfall here, too. They missed the totals completely with the last forecasted storm. So, we'll see if they have gotten any better for this storm. They have predicted 8 to 11 inches for my area.
They keep changing the predictions. As long as the snow stays away long enough for the landscaper to do the fall cleanup.

The snow is starting here.
Snow is coming down FAST in Danbury. I hope they close the office so I can get home!
woo-hoo!
i get a snow day.
CCSU and SCSU closing at noon, but my prof for my 11 - 12:15 class at CCSU (45/60 minutes away) said don't even bother...

Shh! I'm sneaking out of work at noon - don't tell anyone!
I won't tell a soul! I promise!
Twenty degrees with overcast skies and calm wind. Waiting for the snow to arrive here this afternoon. They say it could come down an inch an hour, about 7-9 inches expected for my area. Good thing is it will be all over by late tonight.
It has stopped snowing at less than an inch. Guess I am staying!
Still snowing here, maybe an inch so far.
Starting to accumulate here.
It's back and accumulating.
Got snow!!! It just started a few minutes ago and wow it is really coming down already. Not much wind has come in with it and it is covering the ground quickly.
If you're tracking, the snow just began here about 15 minutes ago. Looks like you and I are closer than we really are, ngam!
They just issued an update for my are:
Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches per hour!! When all is said and done ~ perhaps as much as a foot!
I hope the traveling is safe for pixie and her DD!
3-4 inches so far
Snow started at noon but the grass isn't fully covered yet. It will be soon, I'm sure.
I'm home! :) I think that it is raining now.
I should be finished today . . . sigh . . . instead my last exam of the term is cancelled and I am supposed to hold it tomorrow at 3:15
Meanwhile poor students have made travel plans to leave first thing tomorrow.
Well, I will try to give them the exam at 8 am.
Will this term never end! Oh - and of coure, the class that has its exam cancelled is Sociology 101: Section 13 - and it gets cancelled on Dec. 13. Go figure.
Now it is sleeting!
It's sleeting here, too.
Heavy snow here. They cancelled school at 12:30 but it started to snow at 11AM. Some of the poor kids have a 2 hour ride normally (this is a county-wide tech school). It took me about an hour (usually 20 mins)creeping home with icing windshield wipers and my DBF was already home from Northampton, MA. And wouldn't you know it, the worst was I walked down the driveway to get my Amazon package, slipped and banged the back of my head hard! Ouch. Been a bit weird ever since, but hey.....
Stopped snowing, maybe I can go out tonight.
Turned mostly to ice about 2 PM. Not much accumulation. 1 - 2 inches snow & ice.
Snowed really HUGE flakes for a little while - now nothing is falling from the sky.
Boojum, not fun. It is cold and icy. I am going nowhere. Even with all my years in New England, I still am a lousy snow/ice driver. I never learned in Okla.
Though Oklahoma has been clobbered this week. My DB is without power since Monday in Tulsa. My 92 year old mom went out yesterday to the drugstore and they were escorting people about the store with flashlights. But none of the young salespeople can add without a machine. They had to have her do the addition for them. But all very nice and helpful. She grew up in Michigan so she has no trouble driving in the snow. Her condo has power and generators so she is warm and the dining rooms are open. I think my DB ought to go stay with her, but he is happy camping out in the cold. He has water.
I need part of one more warm day to finish my bulb planting. I tried to beat the storm but the dark came too soon to finish yesterday. Drat. Maybe Sunday. Patti
