Wow, more birthday lilies and wishes, Thanks everyone!
I had a couple days vacation from the computer with our power outage due to the ice storm. We were really blessed here in my community, no homes had any severe damage and the limbs and trees that came down missed all the cars also.
We are still living in a crystal city and even though there is damage all around.....there is great beauty also.
Great pics, Sue. We didn't get quite as much ice as you ~ but it was warm (38°) yesterday and you could hear all the ice cracking in the trees.
I spent 3 hours out walking in the rain at 31degrees on Tuesday taking pictures with my old SLR. I guess I was a little crazy to be out there, but I just couldn't stay inside. In the whole 3 hours I was outside, I don't think I could have counted to 15 more than 5 or 6 times without hearing a tree or a limb come crashing down. It was awesome and made me feel very small in the world. Through all of this I kept thinking how blessed we were compared to what some are going through with the same storm and compared to the ice storm in east and north Iowa last year.
On Wednesday, I was a little smarter and I drove around to take the pictures! We are still ice coated and have about 4 inches of snow on the ground since 10 pm Friday night.
Glad to see you are ok Mary.
We have about 6 inches now and it's still coming. The side streets are still in dreadful shape but it will a pretty Christmas. :)
I'll take the snow over the ice any day. Everything is still coated with ice here.
Sue, I was in the house on that Tuesday we got the ice storm and I could hear the trees breaking and falling throughout the day. It was erie. The power was off and there was nobody out on the roads. I probably wouldn't have been so jumpy but a couple nights before we had watch part of "On the Beach." That movie bothers me everytime I see it.
I'm not sure we are as smart as those of you up north! LOL I had to move over to the side of the road for cars quite a few times! This is a picture of my neighbors front yard during the storm on Tuesday. Not a single branch hit their house and it is surrounded with old soft maples, or should I say WAS surrounded.
Today everything is covered with snow, we are up to 6 inches and it hasn't shown any sign of letting up yet.
oh my how sad I'm glad your all right I think the snow is comming our way tonight and into tomarrow this has been one strange year I'll be gald when its over and we can start an new one be safe and stay warm

Gloria ~ hope you get just the snow and not the ice.
It's such a shame to lose big old trees like that. I know just how you all feel ~ it's much like the big storm we had here 10 years ago this fall. But it was overnight and power was lost at midnight, so you had no idea that what sounded like gun shots was trees breaking, for hours. The backyard was literally waist-deep in oak limbs. And no power for 6 days. Great fun.....
Clean-up is going to take a while. :(
On the up side, there's lot of free fire wood for next year. :)
The snow has started here we are supposed to get 7-8 inches by Sunday night glad its just snow I can deal with that shovel shovel shovel
Gloria
Good deal. :)
Well we got the 6-8 inches and its nice and light so easy to shovel so I'm done till the next round I think with this wind it will be mostly drifts It's so pretty out LOL be careful out there I thought the neighbor and the little mister were going to have a stroke out there trying to help us girls push the neighbor out had to send one to the house and one to sit in the car goofey men anyways LOL
