Is that a plant for discussion here? Is it an epiphyllum?
Fred

PS mine are in beautiful bloom right now.

Fred, I have a white one just busting with buds. Do you have photos? I'm waiting for my buds to pop, then I'll take some pictures.

Hello fredrump Christmas cactus does sound better ,but down here ours bloom around Autumn (fall) to Winter. Perhaps a better name would be Winter cactus. At this time of year we have the close relative, Rhipsalidopsis , blooming.
These are just like zygos (schlumbergia ) but have a star shaped open flower instead of the tubular one. I think you Americans call them Easter cactus.
I have a lot of zygos and a few rhipsalidopsis which all seem to like it here in southern Australia. I will post a pic of each sort . I am no expert and kaelkitty can check on my accuracy with names, but I found this info on internet while looking for types of epiphyllum. I have a very large collection of these gorgeous plants too. They are just finishing their flowering and never cease to amaze me with the huge flowers. They have not been as popular over here as they apparently are in USA, so I was extremely lucky to obtain such a huge collection. It's necessary, but a pity, that quarantine does not allow me to buy some of the beauties you have there.
Happy gardening all.

My what beautiful flowers you have. :-)

I just went to look up to see what you were talking about. One lives and learnes daily. Now, if only I could remember it all. :-) All of the below are referred to as Holiday Cacti and I thought there was only one. They seem to bloom at roughly the same time.

Christmas Cactus - Schlumbergera bridgessii
The Christmas Cactus have pointed lobed leaves and are given from Thanksgiving to Christmas. These are also called True cacti.

Thanksgiving Cactus - Schlumbergera truncatus
These cacti are also called Crab or Yoke Cacti. They are available from early fall through christmas.

Easter Cactus - Rhipsalidopsis gaertnerii
These cacti flowers have wider rounded leaves and are given from Christmas to Easter.

Hello Fred. It can certainly get confusing, especially when there are different regional names for the same plant . I have always known the zygocactus as either just zygo or crab cactus. The rhipsalidopsis , I found on internet sites.
I love them all. They are so easy to grow and give such beautiful flowers . I have an entire shadehouse now just filled with the zygos and relatives.
If you really want to be confused , have a look into the aprorcactus. I ended up with a lot of these type in the epi collection. There are so many sorts of what I call octopus cacti for their long tentacle type branches. I had flowers on some this year and there again is a wide variation from little rhipsalis flowers to some of the aporos larger flowers like epis. .
It's great to be able to talk about them here because noone seems to know about them very much in Australia unless they are a collector.
have a great day.
I have put up a pic of one of my aporos.

Beautiful color, Fredrump.

77sunset, that's quite a collection, all beautiful to my eyes. I love the unusual flowers on all these plants. I have two epies with swollen buds that I don't think will now, as it is so cold. My greenhouse didn't get put up as scheduled, so I will just try to keep them from freezing and wait for blooms next year.
