Hello fredrump Christmas cactus does sound better ,but down here ours bloom around Autumn (fall) to Winter. Perhaps a better name would be Winter cactus. At this time of year we have the close relative, Rhipsalidopsis , blooming.
These are just like zygos (schlumbergia ) but have a star shaped open flower instead of the tubular one. I think you Americans call them Easter cactus.
I have a lot of zygos and a few rhipsalidopsis which all seem to like it here in southern Australia. I will post a pic of each sort . I am no expert and kaelkitty can check on my accuracy with names, but I found this info on internet while looking for types of epiphyllum. I have a very large collection of these gorgeous plants too. They are just finishing their flowering and never cease to amaze me with the huge flowers. They have not been as popular over here as they apparently are in USA, so I was extremely lucky to obtain such a huge collection. It's necessary, but a pity, that quarantine does not allow me to buy some of the beauties you have there.
Happy gardening all.
