Pod, That is pretty! What is the pink flowering plant that you posted above? It looks familiar.

Sylvia, I have only walked through the property once. It is over 50 acres and mostly mesquite trees. They don't provide much shade, do they! LOL If it all works out, we will start planting oak trees ASAP. Also, building a pond will be on the top of the to-do list. I want to plant as many Bald Cypress trees as I can fit around the pond. That is my favorite tree. I may even try to find a good site to build a house and start planting trees there. (Building a house would be years down the road.) Dh will be planting trees and berry producing shrubs to attract wildlife. I am very excited for him, it is his dream to own a little piece of land.

That is a wonderful dream Necia, I hope it comes true for you and you will have a wonderful native habitat some day, although in a way you already have it.

Necia ~ the pink posy is Justicia ~ Brazilian plume flower and this is my first summer. It may look familiar as I had posted photos of it earlier.
Below is the bio on it....
A perennial shrub is covered with flowers from spring until early winter. It is excellent for hot humid summer conditions with very few bug or fungal problems. Ideal for Xeriscape landscaping applications it tolerates spring drought conditions once established and does well with just the rain received the rest of the year. This plant will quickly grow to 5 feet tall by 4 foot wide in full sun if heavily mulched - it prefers dappled sun and will brighten a shady location with it's silvery pink 6" bottle brush shaped long lasting flowers that cover every branch.
Hardy zones 8- 11 and root hardy zone 7b it rebounds quickly from the root ball in the spring if your location has a heavy freeze.

Since the sun is out for a while this afternoon decided to take a stroll in the garden. The loquat tree is covered in blooms which are covered with bees.
Gloriosa daisys are all blooming. Roses have buds and blooms. Datura is still going at it. Filled the bird feeder again yesterday and I think momma Cardinal is trying eat all she thinks she will need for the entire winter. She has been on the feeder all day long, stopping only long enough to go to the bird bath for a drink.

LouC, did you get a freeze last night?

Wichita Falls, TX(Zone 7a)

Lou, Stop bragging! LOL It is so cold here and I am getting really tired of the freezing rain! It is almost depressing.

Pod, That is one pretty shrub! I may have to try it!

I just want to say thanks to everyone for being so kind! I am really liking it here at DG!

no freeze yet, TJ. thinking we are not far from it. I am pretty well protected being right in the middle of a city block. You are on the prairie. Strange in that I am about 20 or so miles further north than you are. Lots of plants in the barn. Put a little electric heater in and am hoping for the best. Lots more in the house.
That's what I get for being an island girl in the middle of Texas. Like lots and lots of tropicals.

Necia... We got a taste of that freezing mess this morning. We had fog that was freezing when it touched bridges, & etc. There were a lot of wrecks, two 18 wheelers also. It was a traffic nightmare this morning. Thank goodness I know some backroads to where I work.
Poor people to the north still don't have electricity after the ice storm. Did you have a lot of damage?

My Brugs are still blooming ... Big Time! How long will they last?

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

It is such strange weather. We had a frost and the Lantana lost their leaves. Yesterday, I see tons of new leaves sprouting on the Lantana. Too many days in the 80's and a week away from winter!

We are due for a freeze tonight Sylvia!!! Cover those babies or bring them inside. I bet they would do great in your bay window at the front of your house.

Sheila it was so funny calling you today instead of Dawn. When I told what I did she laughed so hard. Thinking about it ... sure felt great to see that laugh ... said to tell Merry Christmas anyway. one of these days I am going to learn this cell phone ... and to think i want a Blackberry! lol
Sheila I don't want to start putting plants in my bedroom window. Oh! and BTW I had the entire house installed with wooden blinds the same color as the wooden paneling. Its awsome! Smockett will be so happy! lol She has been on my case for months about my bare windows. lol

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Sounds like it will be pretty with the blinds. Didn't bother me with the open windows, but then I wasn't there at night like she was! LOL!
