Sadie,
It's suppose to get to 17 here tonight. I asked DH if he could drive himself to the airport (he's an Airline Captain) for his trip to Jackson, MS. I didn't want to be on the roads driving our big SUV. Didn't want to be sliding too.
PICS IN MY BACKYARD NOV. 13, 07
I saw that feeder at Petsmart last week and was amazed how big and weighty it was.
Definitely a nice feeder!
Supposed to get snow starting in the next hour lasting till 11pm .
##9-10-11 is immature White-crowned Sparrow. Too much of a dark line through the eye for Field Sparrow or American Tree Sparrow.
Resin
Are you sure?
The Amercan Tree Sparrow carries a dark eye stripe too as stated here:

Pelle ~ I've been looking at these 2 on the Cornell site too.
It looks like the juvie WCS has a black eyestripe (like her pics) and the ATS a rusty colored one. Also, that shot of the top of it's head in pic #10 had me confused, but you can see in the pic on this link, the juvie WCS seems to have that same light center crown area.

All of these "little brown birds" are so confusing to me!!
Thanks sadie; that definitely clears it up!
Thanks Resin!
I had all 3 of my bird books out last night trying to figure it out and still didn't get it right, LOL. For some reason, I forget about that wonderful Cornell site, duh...thanks for reminding me of it again :-)
Marilynbeth,
To avoid sending text with no picture, use the PREVIEW tab first, rather than the SEND tab. By using the preview, you are sure what will be displayed. If the contents are not correct you simply go back and correct the error, no one will ever know you goofed.
Resin,
On a second and closer look at #'s 9, 10, and 11 I think I'm going to change my belief to agree with you on White-crowned Sparrow (juvenile). I didn't see the dark stickpin on the chest nor the yellow lower mandible so I ruled out ATS. I noticed the pink beak and white eye ring and that suggested to me the Field Sparrow but on further review on #10 pic especially, I believe you got it right again. I hate when that happens! LOL.
Jim
LOL Jim!
