Rhizopon for rooting of cuttings

Brownsville, KY(Zone 6a)

I posted on the Hoya forum regarding the use of Rhizopon to root cuttings. Perhaps someone on this forum is familiar with Rhizopon rooting hormones. Has anyone used this product to root cuttings?

Here's a link with some information on rooting of cuttings and Rhizopon:

I've never used it, but the active ingredient is indolebutyric acid, which is the same active that's in pretty much every other rooting product, so I would think it should work the same as the others. It is nice that they offer a few different concentrations since the higher levels of IBA can be helpful for things that are harder to root.

I use #3 on hard-to-root cuttings and dilute it with corn starch if needed. It works well for me on most things. I also use Hormodin on the very toughest-to-root cuttings, which IMHO, works best.

I prefer Dip & Grow myself. A liquid that can be diluted with water to match what you are trying to root. Some things, Photinia for example, will not root with powders, at least for me. Full strength D&G will root it in about 4 to 6 weeks with softwood cuttings. Dirr's Manual of woody plant propagation gives the dilutions to use for things listed in his book.

D&G is 10,000 ppm IBA (forgot to put this in the original post.

Thanks to all who responded. I have used Dip & Grow on some cuttings with good luck. I've also heard of Hormodin, but have not tried it.

Gee, I just got some good information on hard to root woody cuttings. Thanks and i am going to look into Hormodin.

Where can I find Hormodin & Dip & Grow?

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Dip-n-grow can be found here. they make a smaller 2 oz starter kit. I have yet to find it anywhere but ebay. these folks may have it available just give them a call or email.
