Nursery can (pot) availability

Berkeley, CA(Zone 9a)

I actually pour through ANY garden catalog I receive. One of the latest - HPS Seed Catalog (www.hpsseed.com).
They have 1,2,3 and 5 gal containers that look excellent. I'd like to go in with 2 or 3 people to buy their 35 quantity 5 gallon pots at $89.95. At $2.50 a pot, I couldn't find them used at that price.

Hey Dun1kirk; A few years ago I stopped at a wholesale nursery that is off the 405 freeway in S.CA to inquire about 5-gal. pots. They gave me 100 for free.Unless of course you want new and shiny.-

Wish it had happened to me. I went to a large nursery here, and they would not give them away although they had hundreds. Said a company took them back for recycling.

Perris, CA(Zone 9a)

I guess I am lucky. I purchase 1 gal pots for $.50 from a nursery nearby. The same place offers five gal pots for $1.25. These are all used pots that I have to scrub with one part chorine bleach to nine parts water.

Have a good day!!

I went through the new housing tract and asked the landscapers if I could have cans. SURE, TAKE ALL YA WANT!
I now have over 100 5 gallon & at least 50 1 gallon. If you want to come down to the other end of the BART track, I could probably be convinced to share with you.

definitely keep trying with local nurseries....but you will have much better luck if you do it in their off season. you might also try local landscapers and i know many folks who have had luck getting pots on craig's list http://sfbay.craigslist.org/ I searched for nursery pots and had several results.

Keep an eye out in Berkeley (and other places in the area) for landscapers working. I've gotten lots of the 1 and 5 gallon pots by stopping and asking for them.
