Stupid newbie question

Tomah, WI

Hi everyone, I am pretty new to DG. I love lilies & daylilies. My question is, what is a co-op, how does it work, & how can I join. (I guess that is really 3 questions) I've been following this forum since I joined & have learned so much from everyone. I ordered about 40 new bulbs this fall. Thanks for any info. Becky

Mattsmom, I quoted this from my friend Magnolia explaining co-ops to my other friend SteveFtWorth:

"Steve, joining a co-op is easy. You would just add your name to the list of participants on the Faraway Flowers co-op thread, thus kind of saving your spot (especially good if there is a limited number of participants) and when the varieties are chosen (in this case), you may then select whatever number of a particular variety that you'd like. You pay the co-op organizer for what you ordered plus shipping costs and that person organizes and places the order with the vendor, which is, in this case, Faraway Flowers. I understand that Faraway Flowers will be directly sending out the bulbs when the bulbs are ready in spring.

I think it is more unusual that you actually have a say on what varieties are chosen, like this co-op is doing. So if you are interested, list ones you are eyeing, perhaps increasing the chance that they are offered.

I hope this makes sense."

Mags, I hope you don't mind that I quoted you. :)

Mattsmom, no worries , there are no stupid questions here, really. I hope my quote is easy to understand. If you have any more questions about the co-op, Dave explains it here

HI Becky,

Please don't ever be shy about asking anything......I am not a lily "newbie" at all (though I am by no means an expert either), and I didn't know how a co-op worked either, as my friends Ticker and Magnolia have indicated above and Magnolia took the patience to explain it to me. You'll find the people here in the Lily forum are incredibly nice and welcoming and will never make you feel bad about asking anything. Gardening is a learning experience for all of us and I hope you are enjoying yourself!!!
