This is a lovely fall blooming shrub endemic to Texas. Great for attracting butterflies at a time when not many shrubs are in bloom.
Fragrant White Mistflower, Eupatorium havanense, or Ageratina havanense.
The Lovely Fragrant White Mistflower.
Close up of the leaves. I highly recommend this shrub.

I love Eupatorium of all kinds!
Josephine, I sure hope you are saving some seeds for sharing at the Spring Swap. It was and is a beautiful plant!
Thank You, I will pick some today Sheila.
Save me some too sis Josephine! I was admiring the ones at the Fielder House, just beautiful!!
:-)
Save some for me, too!! I am growing to love the fall-blooming stuff. It's nice to have things in full, beautiful bloom while most everything else is fading and turning brown.
Carla
Oh no, another gotta have. : ) I just got the West Texas mistflower this year, and I couldn't believe the butterflies that one attracted. Now you show me this one. : )
~Lucy
There is always another wonderful plant, Lucy, I am glad you got the west Texas mistflower, it is a wonderful plant for butterflies.
Josephine.
They are certainly one of my favorites. I will hopefully have more plants to share next spring. And I have seed...I just need to get it cleaned up a bit. One of these days, I want to locate some Eupatorium wrightii also. It's similar, but it's a smaller plant, which would have some advantages.
I've looked around, they sure don't have many places that sell seeds. I found one that is selling 2006 seeds, and one that wanted $6 dollars plus shipping ...other than that, the rest are were wholesale. Hmmm...
~Lucy
I have never seen the Eupatorium wrightii or Ageratina wrightii, here is a link for those interested.

Lucy, you might be able to purchase a plant from an organic nursery, I really don't know how well the seeds will work, I will try them and see, and if they do well, I will send some to a few people.
I'll keep checking around. Thanks : )

Hey people in zone 8 and up beautiful pictures!!!! Us here in zone 5 and down only have snow flowers right now. Im jealous. But one of my primroses were flowering just three days ago. Now covered with snow. Oh well thats what we get for living in Michigan huh? Have a great winter all. Sorry I just lost my head Im kinda tired of talking a bout the snow in the Michigan forum.... Ronna
Hello Ronna, I know what you mean, I used to live in Chicago 40 years ago, and yes the winters can be too long, too cold, and too boring.
You are welcome to talk with us as much as you like.
Josephine.
Welcome Ronna. I was born and raised in Midland, MI, and my very earliest memory is of being cold!! Relax, sit a spell, and hopefully the Texas forum will warm you up a bit.
Carla
Yes Ronna welcome!!
I lots of great friends from MI... now one more.. :-) Maybe hanging with us can keep you warmer, LOL! By all means feel welcome!!
debnes
That's a very pretty picture, Linda. It would make a pretty hanging picture, I think. : )
~Lucy
Wow Linda that is one great shot!!
debnes
Yes Linda, very lovely, surprises like that can bring a lot of joy.
Glad you liked it! My Enquist field guide give May to June for Hill Country Centaurea americana blooming. Geyata's wildflower book says May to August. So it's a rare event to have one come up in late summer and bloom in December, kind of a miracle. I assume the heavy summer rains that kept temperatures down and the arrival of the sun's heat when it was over germinated that seed. It must have seemed like a second springtime. Once I realized what it was, I watered it regularly, thinking it deserved a chance to bloom against all odds.
That is just beautiful! I'm just learning so much on DG's.
Thanks for the warm reception, to a forum crasher:} I agree I have learned a whole bunch from Daves Garden .. Really love chat and all the ideas. Have a great thursday. Ronna just so you know it is only 16 degrees this morning.
It is 43 degrees in Arlington Texas, not bad.
Someone said it is suppose to hit 70 tomorrow. Our plants are really confused this year. Rainy summer, long fall, and everyone thinks a very hard winter on the way.
try 80 for today girls!!
We shall see! It was really balmy this morning here at 64 degrees.
I saw a Great Blue Heron coming down for a bite in the nearby creek. What a huge bird this is! I'm glad to see our creeks are still not too polluted for them to light for a meal!
;-O
Now back to the beautiful and regularly scheduled White Mistflower, lol
Neat shot Deb.
wow deb beautiful photo!!!! love it. Ronna
great pictures blue eyes.
on the white mist flower i am intersted too. i grow the blue but have never tried to start any from seeds and i wondered how easy this white one would be from seed so please let us know josephine if they germinate well.
All I know is that they make seed every year and every year more little plants appear.
I have tried the baggie method with them, and out of about 30 seeds 2 germinated, I moved them to a little pot, but because they were so tiny they didn't survive.
I will try planting a little pot the regular way and see what happens.
Josephine.
Josephine,
I have been thinking about adding a Mistflower to my garden. I had read that it attracted butterflies and now it has been confirmed! If you do have seed, I would love to trade. I haven't even set up a trade list yet, but I know that I have tons of Copper Canyon Daisy seeds! Here is a picture of my CCD.
Hello Earthtiller, if you send me a self addressed self stamped envelope I will be happy to send you seed.
The same goes for everyone else, I am on the address exchange, but if you can't find it dmail me.
Josephine.
Thank you, Josephine! I will do that!
Necia
Oops! I can't find the address exchange! I know that I have stumbled across it before, but I just can't find my way back! Can someone help me?
Thanks,
Necia
Necia, on your home page click to the Extras button on the green bar at the top of the page, and it will take you to the page that has the choices including the address exchange.
From the home page, click on Extras. You can't see it from the forum pages. :-)
