What the eewwwww is this?

Jeanette, I bought Forbid for mites. I have a LOT of brugs, so I had to have the "big guns"
If you only have a few brugs, I recommend Neem and a back up of the granular Bayers 2 in 1 for roses... be careful, cause it will burn leaves! But this is the method Kell told me to use and it works for spider mites and broad mites. Just need to stay "on top" of it.. and start at the first hint of problems and cover each and every leaf top and bottom with the Neem.
I use Fruit & Nut Tree Spray from Green Light.. it is Neem and Pyrethrins and it has helped with caterpillars.. so I'd think you can use that and the 2 in 1 and that would cover you for mites.

ZZs
I have the 2 in 1 that I use in the summer but I hate to use it in the winter with my plants inside in the dark. I also have the neem. Guess I will try that for the spider mites. I don't think I have any yet because I haven't given them much heat. That is what normally brings the mites out.

Also the aphids. But something is chewing the leaves on the ones I have starting. Just planted. I can't see what it is so maybe I will just use the neem.

Thanks,

Jeanette

ZZ... oh.. thanks... I see the one you're useing...I went to the bayer advanced site... the only one here is the rose and flower.. it has the feed with it.. they do have a tree and shrub protec theret and feed..[ not available here ] I thoughth that was yours.. I see now it has 2-1-1 ferts in it.... I'll haveto order it online..I guess... Thanks..
and you're right.. start the treatment program at first sight.. and you've 1/2 a chance of catching it.. other wise it's a winter of playing catch up...and they'll win.. well they did here last winter..well they didn't win as much as were able to continue to be a problem all winter...Gordon

Yes, the 2 in 1 is for summer.. I wouldn't think anyone has spidermites now? They like it hot and dry..

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

YES ZZ.. wintering plants inside is a dry proposition...most inside growers will tell you the late winter is about the worst time for mites.. I have two humidifiers going... fixing a third... and I water 25 Gallons worth of water that gets into the air also I guess.. every 5 or 6 days ..and it's dry in here... I've for years had spyder mites all winter ... up on the hot roof they move to the morning glories... as they grow up out of reach of the sprays... on the fast growing energetic new tips.. but this year. there gone... I'd thought it was because .I've been spraying so for the whiteflies ....systemics and contact poisions.. and the two and one syatemic feed...I've not had mites. but I see these things I've been using don't bother the mites.. so...NOW. I believe the mites going was the result of the the avid / floramite regimen I was on every two weeks....alternating between the two for months on end finally taking it's toll on them.. none the less horayyyyyyyyyy..
now.... to end the lives of the few remaining whiteflies.. More Systemic MOM!!!

Gordon, drag out all of the gorgeous pictures you have and drool over them and that will remind you of why you are doing what you are. HOWEVER, what are the effects all those poisons are having on you????

Do you wear a mask? I have floramite but haven't used it yet. I have, and it sounds like the rest of you have, more stuff to doctor your plants than HD, Lowes, or any other place that sells it.

So many things I haven't even used or if I have, not long enough to give them a chance to work. I have discovered they don't do much for the plants when they are still in their containers.

I just thought of something else Gordon, you don't spray all that stuff near the A/C system of your building do you? LOL Wouldn't that be something!!

Someone asked where I got the Imidacloprid 75% wsp off of Ebay. There are ones for turf and there are the termicides. They both are the same except for the price. Termicides are cheaper. Use the dilution of the turf 75% WSP. If you are a small gardener use the premixed stuff chemicals in this strength require special precautions. The safest for spidermites is the Anti stress polymers. It does a real good job. And is so safe you could roll in it full strength. For cool weather I am trying the oils. They are a lot cheaper. The Avids and Forbids will soon be useless on Mites. In some places it has been used exclusively that they are becoming immune to the also. You have to rotate to avoid the 3 generation immunity mites are capable of.

The Mectin class of wormers is what the Avids are made of only with a few twist to be patentable. I am mixing my own just to try it but have no mites for a test. I might have to look for a mite infested area. LOL Gordon the sprayer is a trailer mounted with a 8 hp honda. We have an annual ASP caterpillar (locally called woolly worms) outbreak every year about easter when the Oaks start budding. They can cover an area so bad that they fall down your shirt and get on everything and always sting the #%*# out of you. They want a grand commercially to spray my place. So I do it myself and some of my friends places. You have to reach 50'+ up from an angle to keep from getting covered with insecticide. Hence the 99 % of the time overpowered sprayer. I run it about 80 PSI for general spray work.

I need to put on a Army helmet and get a flag when I go to war with Mr. Mite. He put up a valiant fight this last year.

Jeanette...
OH>> the pictures are OK...but as my brugs get adjusted to inside... I'm looking for flowers... just like outside... maybe not 100's at a time.. but surely a few dozen... the aroma inside is over powering with fewer flowers...why breed for anything else..
well .. I can't say right now.. if they have had any effect.. I ususally bathe after spraying.. I try and spray down wind from where I stand... inside... I wash the over spray off the floor after the dripping stops ... mostly for the cat and to .. avoid spotting on the cherry floors.. the plants themselves sit on one of 4 ..4'x 8' fiber mats with a layer of plastic underneath for the potection
Posions are better applied generally now.. going near farmland used to be worse when there was more blanket spraying there.. malathion and worse would fall from the air.. So I bet I'm not geting as much even with my considerable spraying as we all were exposed to in days past..
Nope... no central air intake on my building... it's a small... one co-op unit / floor 4 story building.. we all have our own units through a wall and/or windows.. Additionaly... I get the roof..
Gordon
Jim... three generation immunity.. my my that's fast.. I'llkeep up my cocktail making..and rotations for sure now... Thanks

LOL As the kids say... (and I hate it) My BAD.. LOL

I haven't had spider mites inside.. Knocking on wood...

I did have a terrible bout with broad mites last year! That was horrible. The biggest problem I've had this year was caterpillars.. they drive me insane..

Do you treat for mites before you see them ?
Or start the war when there are signs?

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

ZZ broadmites are a problem for me also...I've never seen them... or knew what to look for..someone oncewasgoing to bring mea plant by my mothers for me.. but saidshecouldn't because it had broad mites... I said come on over with it.. I'd like to see them.. or what they do.. but they never did.. they either thought I was kidding them ... or crazy...and so... for what ever reason. never brought the plant by... might have just been a convinent excuse.. so..ZZ show me some... or show me / tell me what it is they do..
I bet I've had them all along and never knew it

You can't see broadmites.. they are microscopic lil buggars. The damage is curled/bumpy leaves that are crispy on the edges.. they attack new growth. I don't have a pic of the damage.. They spread so fast, and it seems to take forever to get rid of them! I strip most of the leaves.. Neem whats left and hit em with 2 in1

Jim,

What are Anti Stress Polymers and where do you get them? See, this is how I end up with more stuff on the shelf than the stores have.

Gordon, my very first year of trying brugs I got some cuttings from some great people and started them in my bedroom. I had one flower in there. Hell, now I can't even get them to flower outside!! Whoops! The swearing police will get me now.

ZZ what's 2 in 1?

The 1st is the manufactures web site. It is good stuff. It put a plastic coating and smothers the mites and makes an impenetrable coating for mites after a few applications. I am only positive of spider mites the Mr. Broad Mite I am still not sure but it helps. Safe for all plants except cactus.
