It seems you have a case of white fly infestation - do a google.com search for same.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Thanks Kay.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

nope.. not whiteflies I'd wager.
I had one the other day inside...it looked just so bad...millions together..a massive aphid hatch looks like.. to me..
. you can just make out the brown/clear tan bodies on some.. Now..I have white flies also... but I'm spraying plenty to rid myself of them before they get out of hand again.. also hit the aphid bloom...knocked them right out.. they are easy... whiteflies...have been a battle..

Bayer's Tree & Shrub 12 month protection... one time soil drench and you won't see em again till next year!
For me, whiteflies and aphids are the easiest to get rid of..

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Gosh, that is way too soon to start getting those little buggers...I keep my brug area in the high 40s, low 50s and dont have much of a problem until around Feb and March....I remember my first year of warming my breezeway and had it way too warm..omg I had aphids on blooming callas...good luck with what you end up doing....Judy

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Yikes! I sure hope HD sells Bayer's.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

well of course HD had no bayer's...i had some pyola and soap shield
put that on this afternoon just checked i don't see any bugs...but i will still look for some bayer's.
thanks !! Gordon & ZZ :))

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

Along with my posion cocktail spray... I use Bayers also...I think I got mine at Lowes...they didn't have the tree and shrub one...so I got the Bayer systemic of the same sort for Flowers and Gardens... the ortho systemic is apart of my coctkail mix .. I fight them with a mix of products..and I'm just now getting them on the run..
The hatch I had which was like yours... they bloomed over night... I was so happy to have found them and they were so contained...piles of the aphids... and the bunch of litter on the leaf tops... just like yours had.. all in one place ...HAHAHAHA...Got EM....Gordon

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Yeah Gordon ... I Got dem nasties.
I will try Lowes next..no room at the inn for bugs!!
Kim :)

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Even Walmart has Bayer's Tree & Shrub liquid around here! What a shame you can't find it..

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

ZZ, I pulled out the Bayers Advanced Tree and Shrub for the front porch plants all together. i was scared to try it as a drench because I couldn't remember how much to a gallon of water. Is it 2 tablespoons per gallon for brugs, plumerias, hoyas, etc.........?
Thanks

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

ZZ the HD and WM That are closest to me are the pits :(
I don't get it.Lowes is further but has great stuff.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I don't even measure it anymore! I'm sorry I can't help you with that part... I can tell you it will kill impatiens though. I just pour some in the watering can and fill it up..

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

ZZ, there just can't be two of us who don't measure.............i am trying to learn to be more precise!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Keep posting.. LOL Someone must measure here somewhere! LOL

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I will keep checking back to see if anyone knows.............the amount is important because that is potent stuff and one time I killed everything I had using it without measuring..........

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Your talking about the milky liquid stuff right? I have poured at least 2 ounces in a 2gal watering can.. just enough so I can tell the water has something in it.. the only thing I hurt was impatiens.. they hate the stuff! All my hostas & salvias were okay..

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Good , ZZ..I will try your measurements!
Thanks

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

If I get aphids that bad, I use 50/50 malathion from lowes, I don't measure it any more either.

THankfully I don't get them like that poor baby LOL. You have to keep a watchful eye on them all the time during the winter months for sure.

I also use merit on aphids once a year is all they need and they don't come back for a good long time. It's a good thing, cause i'll probably get cancer from that stuff LOL. poisons scare me, and I've always got a bottle handy of neem oil spray to use on a regular basis, but bad times call for desperate measures sometimes.

Aransas Pass, TX

Try some horticultural oil. Leave the poisons on the shelf if at all possible.

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

OH>> These are the same poisons that the USDA/CA approves for spraying on food you eat up to the day before harvest.. and you're not eatting your brugs.. are you
you think they are worse on the plants there.... than on the food you eat..
well i DO BUY ORGANIC.. but I also mostly eat out.. so I get plenty anyway..I'm sure
but to have the bugs start on my inside plants..UNACCEPTABLE...and recomending folks not use poisons sonds like a political agenda.. Gordon

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL, I use what it takes, poisons for the most part , keeps them off for along time, so I don't have to use it that often, organic takes spraying over and over, some folks don't have the time.

I don't poison my veggies though. and most of thse posions there is a wait period before eating the veggies. 7 to l0 days for using malathion on veggies. I believe. Don't quote me, I didn't read my bottle, but have in the past. Although this topic is about brug bugs, not veggie bugs. I thought it best to say that, You cannot eat veggies after spraying with most of the commercial poisons. I only say this because of your mention of eating them right away after poisoning the plants.

I'm not sure on bayer though. I would imagine it has a period of NO picking after spraying.

Now back to the brug bugs.

Use what you think works after trial and error. I'm careful when spraying as we all need to be.

BTW Did you get the bugs off your baby in that photo?

I was looking at the white on the leaf. If you have aphids, you will have white flies and if you have white flies, you have aphids.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

say it ain't so Kay, what white I don't see it.

I used to be a poison person until I ran into Mr. Mite. He will eat your lunch and all your plants and multiply 10X faster when you spray. I have a big gun 30 gallon orchard sprayer with 400 PSI. I live in bug paradise it never gets cold enough to kill them so they are open 24/7 year round. LOL Do not get me wrong I do have some of the most effective insecticides available. I have Imidacloprid 75% wsp the main ingredient in the Bayer systemics. One oz makes 100 gallons of spray. It will kill everything but mites. So a more educated way is through polymer sprays and horticultural oils. Let the beneficial's live and do their job. I am new to the horticultural oils but am real impressed at the effectiveness and longevity of the spray. It will also treat scale, fungus, and a host of unseen pest both adult and in the egg form. When Mr. Mite comes marching in the only thing that works are the above and the new AVID and Forbids at $ 300 per pint. White flies are easy to kill for a season with horticultural oil at 2 Oz per gallon this time of year.

Now Organic, no oil is organic in any true sense. It will last longer than most insecticides and allow beneficals an escape. It also will not poison the frogs, lizards, toads etc. Which are my friends. Now I grow a few acres of ornamentals. If you have a normal residential lot maybe it is ok to spray a systemic all the time and a contact pesticide for edibles. Given a choice I believe the systemics do less harm as they are specific for the plant and are sprayed less.

I just bought some Bayer Tree & Shrub. It says for Trees, use 1 oz per inch of distance around the trunk. For Shrubs, 3 oz per each foot of height. For parts of a foot round to the nearest foot. i.e. 5 ft 9 inches would be 6 ft. 5 ft 4 inches would be 5 ft.

Seems like a lot 'cause there are 2 Tablespoons per oz. Right? So, a 5 foot shrub would take 30 Tablespoons. I am assuming the brugs would be shrubs?

Now I have a question: Bayer T&S doesn't kill spider mites. I have some Volck Oil Spray, Ortho, which I have not used. Have any of you had any experience with it? It says it gets the eggs also.

Jeanette

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Jeanette, I use like 2 oz per 2gal watering can.. I've used it stronger with no different results.. still works for me either way!
I have Volck oil.. I don't remember if I used it or not!
I found some "Fruit & Nut Tree Spray" that is Neem and Pyrethrin and it works GREAT. It's by Green Light and it's in a plain white bottle like Neem.. sold at Lowe's. Says you can spray up to the day of harvest.. it actually works on caterpillars!

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

GRRRRRR!!!!
There Back :( will Bayer T&S advanced work?
I'm ready to strip them chop them up and put them in a bucket
I mixed some hort oil and ortho together.I also ordered some neem.
Wonder who will show up next?@##%^&

Welcome to the wonderful world of brugs Kim!! You earn each and every bloom you get!!!

I use the liquid stuff.. Bayer's tree & shrub.. the 12 month stuff.. and I never see aphids or whiteflies.. ever. I wish I could be 100% organic, but it's impossible for me to spray all my brugs every week.. Just can't do it. I rather hit em hard once a year.

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Ha ha ha wow them bugs ain't wonderful!! Hey ZZ, when I find the liquid they gonna get a long tall drink!!

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

So, what do you do for spider mites?

Jeanette

(Kim) Philadelphi, PA(Zone 6a)

Jeanette this is my first time with brugs. But I did read that the stuff you have helps.I don't know how to link yet but if you search the forum there is a lot about spider mites.

Jeanette / ZZ ....... so what is the fertlizer break down on the Bayer tree and shrub...that liquid there...Thanks.. The granular one ... the rose and flower care by Bayers... is 8 - 12 - 4... N-P-K
balanced for the flowering feeding.. My guess is the tree and shrub is more heavily nitrogen balanced.. the high nitrogen might be better for me now... as they could use some greening up.. but the high nitrogen # might cause the plant to delay flowering ..
Jim... MMMMM 400 PSI... god... brug envy... zone envy.. and now pump envy.. My backpack sprayer.. a solo diaphram pump... only has 90 PSI.. If you don't kill them with the poisions... you'll massage them to death.. whatdrives the pump.. a PTO off the tractor... great...
Gordon

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

There is no fertilizer in the Tree & Shrub liquid stuff.. That's why I love it.. just what you need, no burn no nothing..
