Koi and Pond Pictures

Sarasota, FL

lets see what everyone has for koi and pond pictures

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

Yay! I'll post mine, even though some are not koi and for now they are all in a large aquarium while I bribe them to be my friends. They will live in my pond come warmer weather.

Here's Chubi the Shubi's beauty shot.

Kung pao (koi) and Ruby the goldfish. I had no idea how hard it was to photograph fish!

And here's my last inside koi, Lemi, who I really like because he's kind of yellow-gold and black. Along with a shubunkin, too new for a name, and 2 comets, Ted and Johnny.

Can't wait to see more pics!

Rick,

here are a couple of mine....... The Bekko is 'The General' and the Showa behind The General is yet unnamed. Funny, some of them have names and some don't.

I don't have koi, but I have some nice goldfish. Some of which we babies last year. I had a big white female, and my pond must of had the right environment for them to bred. I lost my female to I don't know what. Could have been raccoon, because I saw one in the yard one night. Anyway she had tons of babies. Lots didn't make it. But here's a picture of some of them this year. the big gold one and the big fan tail one, and multicolored one could all be daddies. And the small fantail one was given to me. But as for the rest, they were babies .

and this one.

My pond isn't deep enough to leave them out, so I bring them in for the winter. I keep them in a rubbermaid tub, along with my water lilies, in the garage. I don't have to feed them all winter. Because it's too cold and they won't eat, and they all survive.

This picture is from Oct. Right now the fish are under the ice. I wish I could bring them inside, but there isn't any room.

I love that white koi crazy4brugs. It shows up so well in the water. Another good thing about the light colored ones is you can see if something is going wrong sooner. Every little parasite they might pick up will show especially those awful gill flukes.

All the pics are lovely and Carolyn you have some beautiful, beautiful Koi that I was lucky enough to see in person.

I posted a pic on your site flkoifarm, but for some reason my pics look like I didn't rotate them to the correct position. They look right until I post the pic and then they are on there side. I tried on this site too,but they do the same thing. I'll try here with one I took today.

☺Um,sorry for my poor eyesight wrenwood, but I can't find your pond in the pic you posted☻

Thanks flkoifarm and poseyblossom, the white butterfly koi and his pond buddies have been around for 5 years. I do enjoy my fish.

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Art-n-garden, love your Chubi the shubi.
Carolyn22, yours seem very friendly, not to shy.
very nice kois, crazy4 brugs, they look so graceful, with their long fins. healthy water lilies also.

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

I love your fish Crazy (can I call you that for short? lol! ). That gold one swimming toward the camera is beautiful, the white one too. Do you have a local source for koi?

Thank you, Burn. I liked seeing your fish! You have some big, nicely colored ones in there. How old are they, do you know? Your rubbermaid tub gave me the guts to clean out my 55 gal aquarium down to the rocks. I caught all the fish, about 4 koi and 8 goldfish, and put them into a rubbermaid while I siphoned and cleaned. Those koi sure are hard to catch. Do you keep a light on the tub?

Grand-Falls, NB(Zone 4a)

Thanks Art-n-garden. Yes I do use a light, It's a clip on one with a regular bulb. The 3 big goldfishes are 4yrs old and the smaller ones, were babies from last year, except for the fantail one. That one was given to me last spring.
I had a hard time to catch them in the pond, my net was very flimsy. I will have to invest in a better net next year.

Athens, PA

Lucille,

Thank you so much for your compliments - as you know, some of our koi are from day one when we had the first pond and each year we have added some.

Burn, the koi are very friendly. I started feeding them out of my hand this past summer. They do follow us from one end of the pond to the other. I love it when we make a change in something, becuase the koi all have to come and check out what was done. I have told my husband that the koi are worse than cats with their curiosity!

Hey, I am going to start a thread in koiandpond.activeboard.com like this one. Please post all the pics.
Thank you all!

Kansasville, WI(Zone 5a)

Everyones pictures are so nice.

Carolyn22 how did you train them to eat out of your hand?

Thanks art_n_garden, all my fish were from a local pond store. I have quite a few babies from them all in aquariums and a stock tank in my basement. They all need new homes or I need another pond. LOL on that. Here is a picture of 1-eye (yes, he really has one eye) he looks like he's trying to put the brakes on, but he was only trying to get out of the way.

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

One eye! Born like that? He is very pretty. I think it sounds like you need another pond! Hehe how's that for enabling?

Athens, PA

Crazy4brugs,

Acutally, it was more patience than anything else. I started by feeding them in the same spot all the time and then over time, getting closer to the koi by kneeling on the deck. Then I just put the food in my hand and let the current take the food from my hand slowly. Pretty soon, the koi were used to it and just started to take the food from my hand. It was actually quite funny, because I think the first couple times, it surprised the fish more than it surprised me!

carolyn22, your fish looking like they might be begging for a little hand out. So tame. I'll try feeding my fish like you said - - - -when the warm weather returns, then I won't freeze. Nice picture.

art_n_garden, enabling?? does that mean you will do some digging?? And no I don't know how one-eye went from a 2 eyed fish down to a one-eyed fish. Maybe during the excitement (like a kid on x-mas morning) of finally stocking my pond I bought him that way?

Sarasota, FL

every one has nice fish =] and induvial shots?

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

I took some more pictures tonight. I got 2 new koi (can't help myself!) in the past couple weeks. Here's Goliath. I think he's my favorite now. I just like the contrast and how dark the red and black are.

Thumbnail by art_n_garden
Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

And the newest one, no name yet. He's all white with dark eyes, looking at himself in the glass.

Thumbnail by art_n_garden

art_n_garden, nice koi. I like the red and black combination of colors too, they are so striking. The white is pretty too. How big are they? Is that an aquarium the're in??

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

Almost all the ice and snow has melted and the fish are checking everything out.

Thumbnail by posyblossom
Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

They're about 6 inches now. Yep, in an aquarium for now while it is cold. I did not intend to keep buying fish for inside...but it kept happening. Can't wait for the weather to warm!
Beautiful picture posy, you must be having some warm weather!

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

Art,it has warmed up so much that yesterday when I took this pic,the plants I am trying to overwinter in the pond started to green up. Go figure Mother Nature. She seems to have a mind all her own☺

Thumbnail by posyblossom
Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

Ooooo pretty picture! Great looking fish. It was really warm here for a while...but has been below 25 for several days now, lows in the single digits. I am sure getting sick of it! The cold isn't usually sustained like this. She sure does have a mind of her own! Lucky you to have some green outside.

I was going to add that my aquarium is 55 gal, so the koi and plenty of room for now (better than the 10 at Petsmart) and since they are small, they get plenty of room to swim. I can't wait to put them outside though.

Athens, PA(Zone 5b)

Snowing outside as I post here. There is about 3 inches so far and it is still coming down.

Lucky fish at your house Art. A 55gal indoor tank sure does beat a 10 gal any day, especially pond fish as they grow.

I just went out this very minute to see what those fish are up to with all the snow out there. I think they look as though they are rather enjoying themselves☺I half expect them to get there sleds out and go sledding☺

I thought that I would share one of my pictures of my pond that I put in 7 years ago. Hope you enjoy.
