I am interested in knowing when OT's bloom in your region of the country. Here they bloom about the third week of July and later. How about you?
When do OT's bloom for you?
Mona Lisa is always the first to bloom and that's by July 3rd with others going all through July and into early August.
Hmmmmmm, I'd have to go back and look at my pictures..... I'll try to remember to do that this weekend..
'Purple King' was my first OT to bloom this year, and I have the date of 6/29. They were fully underway by the 4th of July. I think it can vary a week or so, depending on the year.
That's where I got the date from, Ticker!
My orientals are coming into bloom by the beginning of July, just in time to fry for the holiday.
Oh maaaaaaaaaaaaaan, I want peony and lily season now!!
Magnolia
How do you like 'Purple King'? This coming season will be the first time for
this one. The nursery apologized for the small size of the bulbs but didn't
reduce the price or throw in a 'StarGazer' LOL All I have to go on is a
(probably) touched up photo.

Instant gratification is not all that it's cracked up to be. LOL
fleur, I loved 'Purple King' and I even liked it better than the photos I had seen of it. The fragrance was very nice and I loved it so much , I bought another....lol! The true test of any bulb, if you buy another because you thought it was so great the season before.
One thing I wish, is that it was a little taller. It got about three and a half feet its first season here. If only it were tall enough that I didn't have to bend down to smell it, see a weed below and have to feel guilt-ridden into pulling weeds when I hadn't planned on it.
If you are a gardener, then you are probably not into instant gratification, especially if you grow peony, hosta or lilies. :) LOL However, when the sunsets at 4:30ish in the afternoon it tends to make me long for Spring. Just wait till it gets cold and then I'll really start to whine. :)
Mine bloom throughout June here in north Texas.
What's you first one to open, Steve?
Ticker - I feel the same way.
I suppose it's worse when you live toward the east side of your time zone. Hadn't ever thought much of it until I was on the phone with Wanda ~ I was working outside, she laughed and said "isn't it a little dark?" Nooo... not here!
HMM pirl....I went through some of my pictures from the last couple of years to determine that. Looks like Shocking, Orania, the American series lilies, and Futura are first. Then Conca d'Or, Satisfaction and Silk Road. I had some in 2006 (which was a hot, dry year) that bloomed as early as mid-May but normal if from the end of May though June. The one that I tend to have blooming last is Silk Road (of the OT's) but then it also produces the most buds so it has a longer bloom period than most. I will pay more attention this coming season to see what the bloom order is!.
Thanks, Steve. I've been going over my photo program, too. It's a winter project here.
I'll check on the date for Shocking, here, but it was the first year for it. Now, of course, I wish I had double the amount!
