Does anyone have a pic of these two plants?

I recieved these from a friend but I can't find any info on what they look like. Thanks for any help!

I think the spelling was the issue, I was able to find them in old posts.
Akatsuki no tiuyu
Heian no umi
Is that right??

Thank you!

Here's how it looked in our garden last summer - a tad more of a red-purple, though, than the pic shows - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4211284

Talk about a giant cloud of floating silk - seemed so improbable

Thanks beautiful Karen! I love it with the Autumn clematis it really sets off the deep purple! I can't tell from your shot of the other one but, are the leaves variegated?

Here's a "real life" shot of the other one.

Very pretty Beth!

You've got some nice seeds there!

Caren, yup, Heian no Umi's leaves were variegated. It bloomed earlier than Blue Silk, but both were blooming right up to frost. Also, Heian no Umi did not grow as long or vigorously as Blue Silk did.

She gave me blue silk as well do you all have an amazing pic of that one for me too?

scio, oregon, OR(Zone 8a)

Blue Silk and Akatsuki no Tsuyu are probably the same thing...one is just an english name and one a japanese name. Most people that have grown both haven't seen much difference in the bloom.

Just curious, are both types of seeds blond?

Yes they are but the Blue silk seeds are slightly larger if that makes any differance.

They could be fresher (less dehydrated)...try growing them side by side and see if you can document a difference. We have this with a lot of nils like the Oreheme/Heian no Kaori etc.

Will do!

Karen - Love the photo of the MG and Clematis! Awesome!!!

Beth - Gorgeous!!

Caren - Glad to see ya over here with the desire to grow some MGs! You WILL be hooked! It didn't take me long to be addicted to them! LOL! Enjoy your cool seeds!

Caren, since you asked, here are 3 more real life photos of Blue Silk - Beth already had posted a great one. These might show how Blue Silk can vary and behave in another garden.

Blue Silk in the garden - not a whole lot of flowers bloom at the same time on Ipomoea nils for me - but what a flower :) So many genera and species of MG to choose from, each has something special in its own right.

This photo is interesting to compare with the wider brim here - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=4239748

Well, now I'm really kicking myself for not keeping EACH vine of Blue Silk separate one from the other - as I did for most of the other cultivars. Is it possible that the wider-brim Blue Silk has the black seeds and the narrow-brim Blue Silk has the blonde seeds? Might these two vines be 2 different cultivars or are they variations within the cultivar of Blue Silk? My text and photo documentation improved this year, but evidently not enough - grrr.

Would appreciate any thoughts about this -

I grew Blue Silks from two different sources this year. They behaved in a similar fashion, and I noticed both of them paled out towards the afternoon. The blue faded to cream around the edges and in the center as the day progressed. Its fun to watch the bloom change over the course of the day.

Mine is doing the same thing. :-) Beautiful flowers!
