Fat lady's warming up.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

And I'm grateful for that Lee Anne since the Bombers are playing for your side! :D

Hey, Hi Lee Anne. It's yours Pam. Enjoy, congratulations. At least we weren't totally humiliated.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

I'm still trying to catch my breath!!!!!! By gosh and by golly Saskatchewan got the CUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good game Blue Bombers!

Isn't that something! Sure wouldn't have enjoyed losing it as much to any other team.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Yep us prairie peeps don't see it often!

Now you are being so nice I feel bad gloating that a sign will be going up on the TransCanada facing your province.

Oh pooh, I forgot about that. And I might have to see it too.

Well remember where I was born. Still have relatives spitting Sask straw out of ther teeth.

'later, must go play barber now.

B

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOLOLOL ;D

See we haven't forgotten
In 2003, Bombers placekicker Troy Westwood was reported to have called Saskatchewan fans a collection of banjo picking inbreds.

So we're now chewing on that straw and pickin' our banjo's (while we put up that sign) ;D

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

BTW my husband just looked at the screen and said oh yeh now she's from Saskatchewan. ;D

Well, I'm from Alberta too, lived in all the prairie provinces.

You know, I might have liked Troy more if.....oh well. He never was my favourite. Too skinny and uppity. Maybe Milt will be back to try for the ring again. Now, he's a nice guy.

ed. for flubbity fingers

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Just popped in - not a sports fan here so that was *my* kind of play-by-play-synopsis of the game! Thanks. Saved me from switching on the telly. Congrats to Saskatchewan!!

Sandy

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Thank you Sandy! :D I hope we leave your province in one piece (and without too much straw lying around ;).

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

RIDER FANS PARTY LIKE IT'S 1989
GEOFF HOWE/CANADIAN PRESS

By Tim Cook,
Canadian Press

REGINA -- A mid-game dusting of snow did little to cool the feverish passions of Saskatchewan Roughrider fans as they celebrated their beloved team's first Grey Cup win in 18 years Sunday night.

Thousands of diehard Rider-priders poured out of living rooms, basements and bars across the province after the victory to party like it's 1989 - the last time the Roughriders won the Grey Cup.

The Roughriders are the only professional sports team in this football-mad province and their fan base is beyond loyal.

In Regina, the city where the Roughriders call home, downtown streets were jammed with cars as flag-waving fans in full team garb blocked intersections while they danced in the streets.

The self-anointed cheerleaders had just about every major intersection covered and whooped it up with motorists who hung out their windows and moon roofs.

The eerie chorus of horns which seemed to go on and on made Regina sound more like downtown Manhattan than a small windswept city on the sparsely populated Canadian prairie.

"I was here 18 years ago, it was awesome, this was even better," said Cory Gibbens, who watched the game on the big screen at the city's casino wearing a green an black jester's cap and Roughrider tattoos on his face. "It's a long wait, it's a long wait, this is a great time, Rider Nation whoo!"

The Roughriders have enjoyed surprisingly little success in the franchise history - this is only the team's third Grey Cup - so when the team comes out on top the fans party hard.

"We wait all our lives for this," said Mike Erfurt, wearing his Rider jersey with a black furry pimp's hat and beads slung around his neck. "We've got lots more to come. The Riders are going to happen every year now."

It was a typical Roughrider victory - a nail biter right to the end. The team came out flat in the first half and struggled to execute throughout the entire game, but managed to put enough points up to win.

"I still have a tummy ache it was so close," said Rita Dreher, shouting over the honking car horn as she stood on the curb of Saskatchewan Drive.

"It was a good game. We knew we were going to beat Winnipeg."

Sam Thunderkid said he thinks it was divine intervention that helped the team win.

"As First Nations people, we prayed hard for the Riders to succeed," Thunderkid said. "I think we succeeded in our prayers. It takes everything."

While the fans partied hard Sunday night, perhaps the biggest show of support will come Monday afternoon.

The Roughriders have a rally planned at Mosaic Stadium to welcome the team back from Toronto.

There is also reportedly a parade being planned for Tuesday.

White Lake, ON(Zone 4b)

Pam, you Rider-prider, you!

Headline in the Ottawa Citizen was 'Prairie-Tale Ending'. lol

Sandy

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

You people on the prairie need some mountains to look at and slow down the wind. Cute 'Prairie tale' LOL. Congratulations to Regina and all surroundings. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season. No snow in Montana and we need it.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

We tried. Next year!!!!!!

The other Ginny - watching the snow -

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOL ....well we're hoping not Inanda ...... (18 years was an awful long drought.....even for Saskatchewan people ;).

Now Sandy what else could I be???? : O

Steve push a few of those mountains this-a-way. :)

So Winnipeg has your Mayor and Premier put on the Green yet??? I gotta see how they are gonna dig a couple of holes for that sign, cause Baby It's CoooooooooooooooooooLD Out There!!!!

Haven't seen them in green yet, but I haven't seen much TV lately. EEEw, I hope they don't wear the stretch pants too. I'm getting a real scary visual here.
Yes, it's cold out there. Couldn't believe the temp when I woke up. Ran out and plugged in the bokemp (sp?) for the outside kitties.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

I think the penalty for Winnipeg losing is that we are paying for & installing a road sign on the SK/MB border that will say "Welcome to SK, home of the Grey Cup Winners.

Today Winnipeg Mayor is hosting the Uni. Manitoba Bison football team. They won the college bowl last week (if that is what you call it). The Vanier Cup anyway.

Windy & snowy here today. Drivers who forget about winter driving from one year to the next.

inanda

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

LOL now I have to see what your Mayor and Premier look like echoes!

Yep Inanda I am soooooooo looking forward to seeing that sign being installed. ;D I'm betting Manitoba came up with the idea in the first place, thinking it was a sure bet that Sk's Premier Wall and Regina's Mayor Fiaco would be doing the honors instead. ;)

Edmonton, AB(Zone 3a)

have to say it was hard to decide who to cheer for but in the end i had to go with the green myself. saskatchewan has no other team to cheer for and their fans are the most dedicated in the universe

condolances to you manitobans; keep on winning the 'east' what a joke so that win lose or draw the cup stays with the prairie folk

nice to hear from you steve; hope all is well you must come back to this part of the world to continue your journey (you can meet the new man in my life who doesn't seem like he is ever going to stop growing - 7.5 months; 80 pounds and skinny)

Kalispell, MT(Zone 4b)

Wow Lynn you are going for awful young men now. My guess is that it is a Great Dane. It is also good to hear from you. Hope you have a happy holiday. Yes I have my parents healthy at this time right now so maybe my scheduled 4 weeks in June and July will get me down the N. Sask. I am building a sailing canoe right now. (I am getting lazy)

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Today is the day...... The Premiers of Skatchewan and Manitoba are going to meet on the provincial border to install the !@#$ highway sign that will say "Welcome to Skatchewan, winner of the Grey Cup" . Ah me. There isa always next year.

inanda

North Augusta, ON

Always next year?? Don't count on it. I am a Toronto Maple Leafs fan, have been saying that all my life!!!!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Wrong team. Must say that the Maple Leafs have FINALLY been winning a bit lately.

It is the Argos that were beaten by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Sadly The Winnipeg Jets!!!! hockey team left and went south, name changed to I don't know what.... one of the US teams.

inanda the other Ginny, absolutely FREEZING today
