Coprosma hardiness

I found a beautiful Coprosma "Winter Glow" at a nearby nursery on sale. The leaves are mottled red, yellow and green. The tag on the plant said it was hardy to zone 8, which I am in, but Plant Files here indicates they are hardy to zone 9 (to 20 degrees), which would mean it can get 5 degrees too cold here in the WInter for them to survive. My Sunset Western Garden Book says Zone 8 in their categorization, but I am in their zone 5 or 6.
Does anyone know if this plant really can make it through winters where overnight temperatures hover in the 30's or sometimes 40's, frequently frost just below freezing, and only occasionally (2 to 3 times in a Winter) dips below 20 for cold snaps that can last about a week? Almost never below 15 degrees. That cold would be quite rare.

Some years it will make it through a PNW 8b winter, some years not. I've tried several and keep trying. They really need a protected, well drained spot. I tried 'Carnival' & 'Pride'.
