I was just adding to my double hollyhock seeds and noticed a number of tiny bugs in the envelope. I think I got them all for now, but any ideas what they may be and how to keep them out?
Bugs in Hollyhock Seeds?
Maybe hollyhock weevils. The larva bore into the seeds and eat the inside. I have terrible trouble with them and I've given up on saving the seeds. The germination is almost nil. Check the plant data base entry... I scanned photo of what the adult weevils look like. The larva would be a little wormy type thing. http://davesgarden.com/plants/go/7.html

You can salvage buggy hollyhock seeds by keeping them in the freezer for about a week. That should kill any weevil larvae and, if you catch them early enough, the seeds should still be good.
