LOL!
Dumpster diving for coffee grounds
Hmmmm... Sally, the only Zippy the Pinhead that I know of was (reluctantly?) a feature in the old B&W film, long before the days of political correctness.
Is it a cartoon or something?
Zippy the Pinhead is a syndicated cartoon that appears regularly in some newspapers.

Good Morning Coffee Ground Kids
I am a part time barista at Sbux. Here is the skinny. Every store should have a system set up to recycle grounds. The grounds are dumped back into the 5# bags that the bulk coffee beans come in. We even have huge labels to slap on the bags when they are full. The label helps to re-seal the bag. At my store people will show up to nab the grounds when there is a foot of snow on the ground. The grounds are recycled and that plastic bag gets used one more time. Another good use for the bag--when it is empty--roll the edges down until it is planter pot sized. You have a great pot for your plant swaps or for selling plants. This will get a 3rd use out of something that normally would go into the landfill.
Some locations that look like Sbux are actually staffed by team members of the larger business that houses the location--Target, Great Indoors and various grocery stores. They may not have a system in place for recycling. This is when you ask for the manager on duty and very nicely offer to help them with one aspect of recycling. The bigger corporations are very concerned about PR. Most of these locations will still have the silver 5# bags for their bulk espresso beans. Just ask them to dump the ground back into these bags and then slap some masking/duct tape on the rolled down top when 2/3 full.
Your local coffee shops should also be interested in going green as well. Most of the folks who own a coffee business usually in touch with the world--however--their counter help may not be concerned. If nothing else works---try a little emotional blackmail. State that you would much rather visit their shop than a mega corp like Sbux and that Sbux saves coffee grounds for gardeners.
My veg garden has been given it's coffee buzz for the growing season. Let's hope that I see a Latte' happy plants.
Good growing to everyone.
David
Thanks for taking the time to give us the scoop.
Skinny Latte, David? LOL -- thanks for the info. My S'bucks has a line of gardeners vying for their leavinZ.
