I was browsing in my Victorian Trading Co. catalog and came upon this awesome garden stake! So I wanted to share it so you could put it on your Christmas list, or buy it yourself.
"Sleeping Garden Stake - The bulbs are cozy, nestled beneath their mulch, and summer's vibrant garden has been left dormant and colorless except for this elegant iron/resin decorative. 28", #10159, $14.95."
When I was at A. C. Moore on Sunday, I picked up a little piece of wood and some pinecone and lettering rub-ons to make my own!
Awesome Garden Stake!
I really like it Sue!
I love it Sue - thanks for the post. I like making my own things too so I have may have to make a trip to AC Moore. Eleanor
Oh that's just PERFECT!!!
I wonder if they would have the materials at Michael's as well. I'm due for a trip that way today.
Just noticed my mix up of words in my previous post - still a bit loopy from anesthesia!!
supposed to read - so I may have to make a trip ot AC Moore!! Eleanor
That's fine Eleanor, as long as you're not an illegal alien trying to worm your way onto our forum!!!
Very nice, Sue.
What a great job you did on this, Sue! It's classy and very attractive. Thanks for the great idea!
I think gold paint around the edge would look nice. Did you use rub-on letters, or free-hand?
I vote for moss.
Oh, Louise, I didn't make the one in the photo (I wish!) - that's the catalogue photo. I've yet to get around to making mine, but I have all the materials so, no excuse!
Yeah, but does your vote count Victor?
Of course it counts (LOL!)
I was leaning towards the moss myself, since it will be hung between the glass storm dorr and the front door.
I did not free-hand the lettering. I printed it out on my computer (Lucinda Handwriting) and then taped it onto the board and, using a dull pencil, traded very hard over the letters. Then I 'filled in' the lettering with black paint and a small paintbrush.
The decals are decoupaged onto the board, which had been painted an antique white. and then I gave the whole thing another couple of coats of decoupage medium.
I'll wait for a few more votes.
Candyce - beautiful job!! I vote for a gold border or moss - can't make up my mind. No, I think the gold border would look better!! I'm going to make one also but I don't have my supplies yet - just started driving yesterday and I haven't gone too far yet. Eleanor
Ooops, Sue - but I'll bet yours will look just as good! LOL
Candyce - what a really lovely job you are doing on Anna's plaque! I'm glad you shared how you did the lettering so nicely. That is helpful to know. Gosh, I'm not sure which way I'd go between the gold and the moss. I really like both ideas too. I don't think you can go wrong either way. I hope I'll get to see it in the spring. What a great Christmas gift. The best gifts are those that someone takes time to make - especially if they end up looking nice!! LOL Anna will be so pleased! Now I'm leaning towards moss, mainly because it will give it some natural "depth". Please show us the completed present. And make sure Little Miss M doesn't spill the beans to Anna........I'm sure she must be napping when you are working on it??? Very cool!
Eleanor - you're driving! Sounds like a good sign! Feeling good??
Thanks for the compliments, fellow DGers. I'm still leaning towards the moss. But of course, the cost of the moss might come into play here. I have both gold and black paint, and the hot glue sticks. I'd have to go out and purchase the moss.
I'll price the moss tomorrow while I am out grocery shopping.
Do the moss and paint it black and gold.
Somehow I knew you'd say that, Victor!
Moss is cheap, Candyce, as are Victor's comments!!!!
I think I MUST buy this

Allison, I've seen that - it's a charmer!
Oh, Allison! That's SO appropriate! And, it's not too expensive, either. I wonder if I should get it for my SIL .....
Too funny, Allison! I wish a few would come stand watch to keep the long, black wigglas away!
onewish - love the stepping stone. Could also make your own stepping stone with cement and decorations besides the saying!! That would be fun project (not for indoors)!! Eleanor
that crossed my mind too..... we are HOPEFULLY going to do our patio next year.... we have to tear down our deck ... a few ideas came to mind after seeing the stone
Candyce, Great job! I love it just the way it is.
Thanks, Dave. But it really needs an edging, I think.
We also have the kit to make a cement stepping stone that will hold ALL the kids' names. (PS - it will be one HUGE stepping stone - probably more like a landing!!)
onewish, I think, just because, Paul and I should get that for one of our flower beds...just for the smirk factor...lol.
Candyce...why don't you go for the old/worn gilted edge, with moss on the sides also? green and gold is a pretty good combo!!!
I think my fairys would like that!
Allison:
Would you like me to make one for your fairies? I can't say that it would be weather-proof, though.
Candyce, why would Allison want a stone with all YOUR kids' names on it! LOL!
Candy, that's just beautiful. If you didn't decide yet, I vote for the moss.
Sorry. I thought Allison was speaking about the "My Garden is Sleeping" plaque.
So many comments, so little time...sometimes being self depricating, and having a good sense of humility can go a long, long way. I may have to invest in several garden stones this coming season.
If you are crafty, you can save money and make them yourself.
Candyce is crafty but she better hurry cause there are only 23 crafting days left until Christmas!! LOL Eleanor
p.s. Better make that 22 cause today is almost over and it's bedtime!!
My mom bought a clock for the kids that plays Christmas music on the hour and counts down the number of days until Christmas!
thank you Candyce..... that was very sweet of you.... but I am crafty enough to pull one of these off.. must have something to keep myself busy with during the winter months anyway
Allison
