Felicia was right about not fertilizing cuttings.. they don't go dormant. Once you pot them up.. and don't water till you see new growth... then you can start hitting them with fertilizer like she said.. but I learned the hard way.. fertilized seedlings when they were under the lights my first year.. rapidly had to buy lights to hang higher and higher... LOL
It's so fun to hear your excitement.. makes me smile.. cause I'm still as giddy about brugs as I was when I started my first cuttings!
I still refer to myself as a newbie, only cause I don't wanna come off as giving advice like an expert.. and maby I don't wanna give up that excitement like you have.. I haven't settled down yet!
New to gardening & brugs and loving it!!
Hi Indiana, um, I a pupil, not ZZ. I did the same thing last night on a different post.
Yes, my mother has a wicked sense of humor. She is right. She has been amazed at my gardening since I haven't quit. She actually said this must be the real deal, because I would have stopped after one successful plant normally.
Tgg, that is my problem. I spend so much time in the garden, I don't have time for anything else. I have several projects started and haven't completed one. I have got to focus on one at a time.
Indiana, are there any good books or DVD's on knitting you know of. This seems like a craft I could put down and pick up when I have time.
On a sad note, I went to move my brug outside and lost one of the blooms. Services will be held at 12 p.m. sharp. Two more on there blooming and two that haven't started to open. Please let them make it!!!
Oh, there is plenty of new growth. lol. I am contantantly pinching off large leaves. So, should I slowly taper off the water and move them away from the sunlight?
The excitement is overwhelming. My first plant I received in my entire life was a coleus this summer. I am still giddy of them and have over 100 varieties. I can't believe I am actually succeeding. That is the most amazing part to me.
Other pot of brugs with size of leaves.
Once again, thanks for sharing this with me. It would not be nearly as fun if I didn't have adddic....lovers of brugs around.
Oh my GAWD... look at those leaves!! I love the serrated leaves.. I believe that is an indication of aurea influence... a very desirable trait..
LOL I just stuck in Felicia's head like that ABBA song! LOL Take a chance on meeee LOL
I moved my brugs inside the garage, except for Mountain Magic that's on my kitchen table blooming at the moment, and have not watered them. I do keep the lights on for them though. Don't ask me why, it just seemed the thing to do, but most of them are still blooming. They will slowly take in the moisture from the soil, lose many leaves (don't panic) and take a nap. No weaning on my part. Then about once a month between now and spring, water them sparingly to keep them alive.
I am so sorry about the lost bud. I know that hurts, but um, you'll get used to it -- believe me.
Ooohhh, those leaves are very nice -- kinda like Whiskers' leaves. :)
I don't know of any knitting how-to books. I think mom had a Time-Life book way back when, and that's what I went by.
Joyce, you obviously somehow knew that I would have a slow day at work today and started me up on the ABBA thing, didn't you? Sigh ... let's see.... you're definitely livin' on the edge with that one! ;)
I thought it was great that you called her ZZ Felicia.. I had to "get" you for that one! LOL
impossible to stay on topic with material like that. LOL
LA LA LAA LA LAAAA
LA LA LAAAA LA LAAAA sing it with me!
I think those leaves look like DrSuess..
Whoops!! Sorry about that Pupil!! See, it's so slow at work today, I cannot read!!
Are your serrated leaves fuzzy or smooth?
Don't be sorry. I love it when people start chatting, as this helps me get to know them. ZZ, love ABBA and imagine that will be in my head for the rest of the day!!
The plant I think ya'll are talking about is labeled Dr. Seuss and has fuzzy leaves. Is that correct for the good dr?
Ok, Pupil, I'm going to do to you what Teresa did to me. :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuB8xWeA59I
Darn!! I was wrong!! ZZ definitely knows her brugs!!
I just jammed out in my house like Paula Abdul. That rocked!! Thanks, I needed a pick me up!! I listened two times in a row. Love it. The graphics were spectacular!! I think they used every available effect at the time. lol.
What was ZZ right about? Did you think it was something else, Indiana?
pupil, I'm with you - totally new to brugs! Kassia gave me a white one (great fragrance!) and then I bought three Equadorian Pinks from Wayside (it was an end of season buy one get two free). The pinks were quite small when they arrived - but I potted them in 20 inch pots and they bloomed their fool heads off until two weeks ago when I finally brought them inside to protect them from the frost.
Now I want lots!
Hey Seandor, fancy meeting you here. I bought my first NOID at a farmers market for $5. It hasn't bloomed, but the growth has been amazing. I guess that is what amazes me about all of them. You get a stick and a week later they are huge. Well, and the blooms are fantastic. And the smell. And the....enough. I have tons of NOID cuttings and would be happy to send you some when it warms up. That is if I can keep them alive. JLMK. Keep in mind they are noids, but to me, they are a pretty. About to go take my nightly pic. See ya at the RR.
Infectious, isn't it Michaela? I just got my first ones a few weeks ago and I can't believe how well they're doing. I've never seen anything grow like they have! I would say they're growing like weeds but I do believe they're putting the dandelions to shame. ;-)
When will I see a bloom? Huh? Huh? I wanna post pictures too!
That is all she has, as one was knocked off today :^0
There are two more buds but one doesn't look so good. And now for the WORST PART. We are going out of town until Saturday. I won't get to see it open unless it does by morning.
Which segways into my next question......How long does it usually take the bloom to drop and open once the bud opens and how long does the flower last on average. If it is gone by Saturday, I will cry, literally!!
Oooh Traci she's going to be beautiful. Do you know her name? Shall I come sit for her while you're gone?
I am in awe of how the color changed so drastically so quickly. That is truly a wonderous thing to behold. Congratulations Traci and Happy Thanksgiving. :-)
Pupil... what a fantastic job you're doing! Great shots too!
Wow! those are gorgeous, pupil!
Edtited to add : I may take you up on some of those cuttings!

Fantastic! Great job, Pupil!
Thanks BDunn. It has been so much fun!!
Truly beautiful. I too am a brug newbie, but a long time gardener. You're way ahead of the game with those great trees! Your Pink Lady reminds me of 'Rosamond'. I was lucky enough to get cuttings of her and 'Whiskers'. Happy gardening!
Maureen
Thanks Maureen. I am new to everything gardening, which makes it very exciting. I was very lucky that a wonderful DGer was willing to give these to me. I guess it would be nice if I gave her credit. Her ID is Picabo and she is in the midsouth forum.
Sorry, Picabo, for not giving credit earlier!!
I can't wait till spring to see what the all do. It is so facinating to watch these amazing plants. IF things go well over the winter, I will have lots of cuttings to share, as I have learned that is the spirit of DG. Most of mine are NOIDs, as I forgot to mark, but all brugs are pretty. Please let me know if you are interested. Can you tell the worry I have about all these cuttings?!? :^)
I will swap you cuttings of brugs for roses - I am trying to root some roses - but I can't possibly plant them all if they actually take :-) So far, my success rate hasn't been so good.
Sendor, I just sent you a D about Delphinium, but roses are good too. PLEASE let me know if you get them to root, as I have been trying sooo many different ways!!
Will do - so far I have rooted a New Dawn - and two rogusa roses (Polaris) - and I think I may be successful with a "mystery rose" - the sender wasn't sure whether it was a rogusa or a floribunda.
I think my roses are getting too much moisture when they are covered - most just grew mold. So this time I am trying without covers. It's probably the wrong time of year to try anyway, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.
