Congrats to Victor and Al

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Can't incriminate myself, Don! The sentence is long enough. Thanks or the vote. Next year I plan to embed a stealthy marker that shows it's my photo!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

i think the only actual winner i voted for was the hibiscus that took 1st i went for i think 2nd.
Victor: YES! i totally agree! Foliage category for next time. And i've been trying to think of another, sorta like your best captions, humor seems too strong a word. Maybe whimsy? Cause there were some pictures that made me smile or laugh, sometimes from the caption, sometimes just the picture, and i wanted to reward that somehow.
Actually, i am going thru and d-mailing a lot of my personal winners that didn't place to tell them how much i liked their pictures... i just wish i could still see my saved favourites.

edited to say - o yeah, i did vote for al's grass, and for the peony that won. that grass picture is what made me interested in having some of my own!

Yeah, that was a really nice grass picture. You had some pretty nice photos in there yourself Amy!

North Augusta, ON

Dave has added 5 runners up, we still have lots of talented folks. It was fun going back and checking, the one's i voted for that didn't make the top 3 were in the honorable mention list.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

thanks Harper! there were quite a few i thought were pretty nice until i saw the competition.
(i still wish we could see our scores - i'd love to know if i got any votes for any of mine, other than the one someone d-mailed me about.)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks 3G's - just went back and checked. Congrats to Allison, WaterCan, Kassia, and Booj (again!).

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

I'm checking out the honorable mention ones now. Some of the ones I voted for (in insects, bulbs and birds) are still not in there! Seems I have unique tastes in some categories.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

So many winning photographers from our dear family!! I was blown away when I saw how many of you won. And I am so filled with pride - again - for this talented bunch!!

Congratulations to all!!!

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

mine too - at least it adds about half of my picks in though.
i think it depends on the criteria one is voting with - maybe ours were different.

and there are definitely some i did not see. i think that if you were using full screen and stopped partway through a category, and then went back, it maybe didn't show ALL the ones you hadn't viewed. Because in 2 cases i only saw one of my 2 entries, and i thought something went wrong when i uploaded them, but there they are in the thumbnails now.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I can swear that I did not see some of those runner-ups, including Kassia's. I hope I'm not losing my mind already!

Boxford, MA(Zone 6a)

Al, your dahlia "Akita" photo was #1 in my book, and my vote. I didn't want to vote by person, but by photo, and I thought that was perfect. This coming from a professional art-school dropout!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Wow, Kassia that was your roses at sunset pic? It was just spectacular!!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Hey, Jax! I'm a professional art school drop-out too! I went to Moore in Philadelphia. Where'd you go?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yeah for the Art School dropouts! Shows that degrees aren't everything.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Do I have to look at ALL the categories to find my buddies' prize photos? Phew. And i thought VOTING was hard. (I only voted in Perennials - that was enough to make me dizzy.)

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I didn't even try to draw Tippy - does that count?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Tippy Hendron??

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I saw our winners; very nice. Nobody I voted for won! x, Carrie

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Would you vote for my carp pic? hypothetically of course **fingers crossed**

Tippy

there was always an ad in TV guide

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I was kidding. I remember that one - and a few others.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I'm a little late here, just checked to see who won. Congratulations you guys. Those were some fantastic pictures. Our Northeast forum had a really good showing.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Hi polly.
You have been missed. I'm glad to see you are back.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Aw, thanks Candyce! I'm not missing, I just don't have much to say. I do read everyones posts.

I have a nursery, so am busy spring thru fall, but this time of year, I'm pretty much done for the winter, so will try to contribute more.

Although, I must say, the folks on this forum are so knowledgeable it is such a learning experience just to read the posts.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Yes, they are all very knowledgeable. That's quite a compliment from someone who runs a nursery. Do you find that being a nursery keeper is more challenging than having your own garden? You must be bombarded with questions from other gardeners that visit your nursery.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

My nursery is mainly ornamental grasses for landscapers, but I do have some other items. The landscapers are all quite knowledgeable about the grasses, I just like to suggest some different varieties of grasses or other perennials or shrubs I happen to have on hand to try at times. I try to carry a few items that will go with the grasses, such as eupatoriums, phlox, hellebores, etc. So that aspect of the nursery is very easy.

I don't advertise any other items, but at times people will drop in, and then some questions, which I always welcome. Of course, that means my personal gardens have to look nice also, or that would be bad for business.

I would say my personal gardens are much more challenging to me.

In the next year or so, I'm going to venture into internet sales of siberian iris, as they grow extremely well in my sandy soil. I'm a little apprehensive about that. Of course I was about the ornamental grasses too, but they are so easy.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hi Polly!

Nice to see you posting again. Good luck with the internet sales!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks all.

Nice to know I'm welcome here.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Hi Polly!

Upper Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 5a)

Congratulations to Al and Victor on their winning photos - actually haven't looked at them yet but will over the next few weeks when I'm not so busy. (Don't have my grandson for 6 weeks - I'm going to miss him terribly)
pollyk - nice to have you posting with us. I know where Hannibal is - I have a cousin who lives there. I'm originally from Camillus and moved to Glens Falls when I got a teaching job here 36 years ago. My family is still in the Camillus, Baldwinsville, Plainville area and an aunt used to live in Granby!! It's a Small World After All!! Eleanor

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Eleanor, maybe you can dmail me who your cousin is. This is a small town, so I may know them. My daughter's practice is in Baldwinsville and she lives over towards Plainville, not far from Plainville Road (Co Rte 8). It is a small world. Glens Falls is a lovely area. Before I retired from my state job, my territory included the Adirondacks, although I only went as far as Tupper Lake and Old Forge, as I worked out of the Syracuse office, and from there it became Albany territory. I did have some special investigations when I would get over that way though, and loved it there. Very scenic.

Amy, the best place I can recommend to get good ornamental grasses reasonable is Santa Rosa Gardens. They would have a lot of Miscanthus that would be the height you like, plus some of the Panicums. I particularly like Dewey Blue which gets about 5-6 feet here.

belleville, NJ(Zone 6a)

wow - i ordered bulbs from Santa Rosa and they looked great - they also sent me a bonus gift of an already growing 2' tall red lion amaryllis. i forgot that grass is what they specialize in. thanks for the recommendation!
i wish i'da thought of this a few months ago! (i am trying to block the view of a dumpster, but the area i can plant in is rather narrow - all the trees and shrubs i was looking at that'd be tall enough seem like they'd get too wide.)

thanks!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Thanks Polly, you don't need to lurk.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Allllllllright.....

No more lurking.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

I agree. No more lurking. I had sincerely thought that you were part of the family, Polly.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Hanging my head, amending my ways.

The Monadnock Region, NH(Zone 5a)

Ah, Polly. Don't hang your head. It was not my intent to have you feel bad. It was my intent to have you feel as though you are part of our family.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

No amending - unless your soil needs it! Candyce, your daughter and Polly can team up and they will be PollyAnna!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Sorry, I'm already a Pollyanna. And that was before the movie.

Candyce, I' was just joking. Don't ever worry about my feelings. I'm a pretty tough one. I do feel part of the Northeast family, and it's a good family to be in!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Victor - I was packaging plants for polly and lillyo a while back and had Polly-O cheese on my mind the whole time.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's cute, Pirl.
