free seeds from Burts bees

St. Louis County, MO(Zone 5a)

I bought the Burt's Bees Hand Slave, it is the BEST stuff I've ever used for my poor hubby's hands. They dry out and crack/bleed in the winter, and are so much better after just a few days.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I got mine today. 2pkgs actually. hope i didnt get someone else's too.

When I went they were gone, and the site said that they had given out 50,000 packs of seeds. That's a LOT of seeds to give away.

Can someone who has received one tell what seeds were in the packet?

Thanks :)

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

OH... i posted that in the WS forum... lemme copy/paste

on the package, it states, seed-wise:
Wildflower mix: calendula, shasta daisy, lance-leaved coreopsis, plains coreopsis, purple coneflower, sweet william catchfly

South Milwaukee, WI

I recieved my seeds today! Thanks much ! I can't wait to plant! The mix sounds great.

I'm thinking about growing these together in a really large pot in the middle of my veggie garden to attract bees, and so it will be easier to collect the seed for sharing. Will this work?

Mesilla Park, NM

Hey Marie,
thanks for posting this, mine haven't arrived yet. will post when they do.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

You can do that with a large pot but if they all grow you will have a big crowd. You could always take out some babies and transplant them into your garden along the way. Hope this helps. BEV

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I dont know about all the plants... but the Coneflower, Shasta Daisy for sure wont bloom the first season... I'd have to look the others up... the Plains Coreopsis will.

South Milwaukee, WI

These are all perennials right? So we have to plant them were they will be undisturbed for years, right ?

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

I thought Plains Coreopsis was an annual.... but i could be wrong. but it reseeds.
I'd have to look all of them up to know for sure... but the other 2 i mentioned, i know are second year blooming perennials.

Jerome, MI(Zone 5b)

I got mine yesterday...sent about..the beginning of this thread..nice for sure...

thanks for the heads up..

WOW, that is the second time I heard they ran out of seeds!
Hey Janis, good to see you girl! :)

Paris, TN(Zone 6b)

Thanks TCS, maybe they will do it again in the future and I'll get 'em then :) I think putting them in a pot in the middle of the garden sounds cool, like a bee-drive-thru...hehe.

Mesilla Park, NM

Yeah, I requested mine right after Marie posted too.

I was going to send off for some and realize I have seeds of almost all of those. I have discovered that the bees love the broccoli blooms. I let some of my broccoli go to seed recently and I had 10 bees on just 2 plants. I was amazed. They loved it. They still visit each day even though most of the flowers are gone now.

Bluffton, SC(Zone 9a)

The funny apart this is I bet everyone on this board has many many plants for the bees but you see free seeds and a gardener feeding frenzy starts.

BTW my mexican heather is usually loaded with bees to the point that my wife wants me to get rid of them. Last year there was very few bees but it isn't from lack of food in my yard. Hopefully the bees rebound this year.

Leesburg, FL(Zone 9b)

the "FREE" did it for me.

the Sweet William Catch Fly will be a new one for me.

I grew the Shasta Daisy and Purple Coneflower last year... so hopefully i'll get lots of blooms this year.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I got mine on Saturday.

I did not sign up for these . I received 2 pkgs and my husband received 1. I did register at wintersow for seeds again this year. That must be where they got our names and address. Cindy

I finally got ONE package today. I don't understand why some get 2-3, and some only get one???

Hi all, here is a response from Burt's Bees on how the seeds were disbursed:

Hi Tammy,

I'm not sure why some people are getting 2-3 seed
packs, but my guess is that they filled out the online
form more than once, either on purpose or by accident.
We really didn't try to control how many times people
applied for the seeds, but we only sent one to each
applicant.

Maybe you guys can all pool your seeds and start a
community bee garden:) If I had any remaining seed
packets, I'd send you more, but we are all out.

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

I did finally get mine a few weeks ago.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

If you can grow it in your zones, I have tons of senna alata seeds. The bees and sulfurs just love it. You can have plenty for SASBE.
