Had to go to town again today so I revisited the Pond West of town.
DAILY PICS VOL. 32
Excerpts from Cornell's "All About Birds" website:
Cool Facts
.....The Cackling Goose was long considered just a small race of the Canada Goose. The smallest four of the eleven recognized races were recently determined to be distinct enough to be their own species.
.....The smallest form of the Cackling Goose is only a quarter the size of the "Giant Canada Goose" subspecies.
(This smallest form is found along the California coast)
How 'bout this.......

OldNed, that is just the cutest most amazing picture! Nice 'grin.'
It has a yellow patch on the wing, and some yellow on the breast
Greenfinch
the pic was very dark, Ilightened it and found it was a Bull Finch!
Sorry, it's a Chaffinch! Bullfinch is different shape, and has a black cap and white rump .... ah, see you got it later! ;-) "The wings look to have a yellow stripe where it should be white" - means it is an immature (bred this year).
ducks #1-7
An assortment of dodgy Mallard - farmyard duck crossbreeds. Realistically, more poultry, not 'real' birds ;-)
Lots of ducks
Ditto!!
This goose is marked like a Canada Goose but quite a bit smaller
Cackling Goose (Branta hutchinsii, recently split from Canada Goose). Possibly a 'lost' wild bird, but - given the situation, consorting with farmyard ducks - more likely an escape from captivity that's lost its natural behaviour. A wild one would be in a huge flock (they're highly gregarious) in open country, usually coastal fields or saltmarsh.
No question what this guy is eating, those are feathers floating around his head
The diner is a Merlin; can't tell what species it is eating!
How 'bout this...
Turkey Vulture being mobbed by two crows?
Resin
Thanks for identifying the poultry Resin! :-)
Ned- Love the Youtube pic!
Very Nice pics adel,GM!
Beautiful robin wallaby!
wallaby - the robin is charming! Story-book like.
Robin is a bit of a show stealer!
It's wet and cold today, possibly for the next 9 days too, rain or showers each day with no sun promised. Somehow on the 10th day we should have sun and cloud, haha. Time to sort pics (boring).
Look who was perching on the oak tree tops yesterday, across the horse paddock.
Nice magpie!
Wow, Wallaby beautiful magpie and the robin was very cute.
Jenny
adelbertcat,
Nice to see different race variations of some common Eastern birds. We don't get to see these races here. In order: Sunny Goldfinch=Lesser Goldfinch------Bouncy Junco=Oregon Junco-----Jumpy Towhee=the western race of the Rufous-sided.
Jimbo
I would love to see an Eastern Towhee.
Nice photos once again, everyone.
I didn't see too many bird species this weekend. Earlier in the week, I ran into a huge flock of Robins and a smaller flock of Cedar Waxwings. Of course, lots of Canada Geese have arrived for the winter. This weekend, I did come across a large flock of Buffleheads, 30+. Here is a photo of some of them followed by a few other other pics ....
