CLOSED: Weird cocoon like things all over siding & garage

Troy, MI

I just moved into a house in a more rural area and found these wierd things all over my vinyl siding and now I found them in the attic as well. They appear to be skins of some kind of larvae, surrounded by a greyish sandy substance. I do not see anything alive, or any infestations of any kind.
Any idea what they may be? I live in southeast Michigan.

It looks like the nest of a mud dauber wasp of some sort. Someone else will probably be able to narrow it down to a species for you. I think the genus is Sceliphron.
