Variegated Seedling - KBS x LSD

Clermont, FL(Zone 9b)

This seedling is the result of a cross made by Gary Morales. The seedling sprouted with variegation this spring. As it grew it maintained the unusual variegation pattern but lost some the cream coloring it had as a seedling.

It has been a vigorous grower all summer. It lost all of its leaves in June after I applied a dose of Bayer fertilizer & disease granules (won't use that stuff for container plants again).

It has tried to bloom a couple of times this summer but dropped the buds due to our extreme Florida heat. Now that things are cooling off it looks like I may have open blooms next week!

The plant is currently about 3-4 feet tall and has been relatively pest free this summer. I'm anxious to see if any of the cream variegation comes back in the cooler weather. All of the leaves stay the light green color with only splotches of dark green splattered about. The leaves also maintain a ruffled appearance. It currently receives a few hours of sun in the morning followed by filtered light through the oaks for the remainder of the day.

This pic shows how the foliage stands out compared to a regular brug in the background.

Fred, Interesting foliage. Does it remain light green even after you apply fertilizer? Do either parents exhibit ruffled foliage? You'll have to post photos of it when the bud opens.

well I wonder what color it will be when it does bloom.........

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Interesting. I just started some seeds, a cross from Gary, I hope they do good. I have had seeds from him befor with good results.

I have been feeding it very heavy all summer and when the new leaves come out they appear to be all green but as they grow the light green coloring and speckles dominate. I plan to plant this seedling in full sun in the spring and it will be interesting to see what the coloration does then.

That is really awesome Fred! I can't wait to see what color it will bloom. I have heard somewhere that LSD can throw some albino seedlings too...were any of your other seedlings albino from that cross? Cool to get one with such nice variegation.
