Mid-Atlantic Conservatory Trip Everyone welcome.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

We'll be sure to do Wednesday, then! We keep missing chances to get you & Bobbie together -- not this time! :-)

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Sounds good! I'll put it on my calendar so nothing else gets put there and you can let me know what you decide.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Bobbie says she'll let me borrow her new camera to play with on Monday and give it back to her on Wednesday (we're thinking of getting the same one), so I think lunch both days is a given... Do you have enough time to come to the house? Giant has salmon on sale (just the farm raised kind this time, but I have roasty sauce & gnocchi to go with)... And I'll have the cooking underway before you arrive, so final prep will be quick.

Sorry, I know this is a little O/T for this thread... but I really was hoping to tempt other folks to join us if they could! :-)

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Critter, are you a Kept Woman? That's what I want to be when I grow up.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well, DH says I'm a keeper. :-)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

you do give a heckuva bug-repellant rubdown! he hee.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

... it's getting warm in here.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

LOL. It's a matter of practice... trying to get mosquito repellent on my brother's 3 kids as quickly as possible, when they're all jumping up and down, clamoring to get out the door and start running around catching fireflies or picking cucumbers or what have you. :-)

I'm pretty confident I'll be able to leave the Deep Wood's Off at home this month. Sorry, Wrightie.

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

lol, I was referring to all of the touching going on!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yes, well.

(jax) Dundalk, MD(Zone 7a)

Wow! I cannot beleive there is an opportunity for me to meet people I have been talking to/lurking around for the past few months. Yes, yes, I am a newbie!! And proud of it. But, I never thought I would really meet any DG'ers!!! I would love to come to meet all of you. I live in Dundalk, about 15 minutes from Druid Hill.

And BTW, Hampden may be sort of guady....but it is so beautiful at Christmas. We usually vist every year at this time, to get in the spirit.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

jsxtiger, Welcome to DG. How wonderful we would love to have you come. How nice it will be to meet you.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

jsxtiger! Welcome! Welcome!

SO! Where have you been hiding all this time??? You are probably my closest "neighbor". I live in Perry Hall/White Marsh.

Holly--I have one small concern about Hampden. We will, most likely, be there in the daytime and not be able to get the full effect of all the decorations. Need dark for that.

I personally won't be able to hang around too late, as I have the HD Christmas Party to go to.
That starts at 7PM. I would have SOME time to wait until the dark. I plan to go straight from Hampden to the Hall.

Gita

(jax) Dundalk, MD(Zone 7a)

Gitagal, I am right down the road from White Marsh..about 10/15 minutes, depending on traffic. Whatdoyaknow! Gosh, a real DG'er that close! So, tell me, what are your favorite plants, what's growing in your yard. What is your fav forum? Me, I love the tropicals..ie: EE;s, cannas, palms, even brugs etc.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Holly,

Only ONE week to go to outRawlings Conservatory trip! Bring your cameras!

Think we need to finalize the count and the schedule.

I asked that a tour guide be provided for us at 11:30AM. This allows a half hour for stragglers to get there. I hope that everyone can make the effort to be there by then. Even sooner is better. The agreed time is 11AM.

I would like to let them know how many of us are coming.
And--please don't forget the $4 donation--as we will have a guided tour.

11AM--next Sunday!! BE THERE!!!!!!!! bring something warm for later when we walk around 34th street. I hope the weather is not as frigid as right now!

See Ya all! Gita

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Hiya, there's a good chance that I'll tour the conservatory on Saturday following my race since I'll already be in the park. If I do manage to get a lot of my baking and holiday "stuff" out of the way, I'll head back up on Sunday to play with you lot.

smooch-smooch

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Would enjoy it I'm sure but I'm staying uncommitted till last minute. Time of year, kids, bla bla, usual excuses...LOL

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

DH (Ron) and I are still on. Jill and Bobbie -- let me know if you can ride up there with us.

Sherry

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sherry, I appreciate the offer! I won't know for sure until I know what's up with my mom and if/when my folks need me in Pittsburgh... so I'm afraid I'm still just a "definite maybe." :-)

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Critter, is your mother not feeling well? I hope she's alright.

Brunswick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sorry y'all, I won't be able to go. My Uncle decided to pick that day for the family Christmas get together. This is the first year without my grandfather, so I really can't skip it this year.

Sherry, the darn snow last Wed really messed up lunch plans with Jill. Still hoping to meet you in person soon!

You guys have fun and take lots of pics! Merry Christmas!

Bobbie

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks, wrightie... she's having trouble with her back, lots of pain from a badly pinched nerve, and it's looking like she might have to go to a surgical solution... phooey! We'll know more after they talk to a couple of docs tomorrow. On the positive side, the last time we went up I stayed on for a few extra days and took the bus back, and that went so well I might just take the bus if I go up by myself again... easy, fast, inexpensive, and it drops me off by the mall just a few minutes away from my parents' house!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Sorry, but it looks like I'll just have to be thinking of you all on Sunday and hoping you're having a great day together! Wrightie, I'll be cheering you on during the race, too... when you suddenly seem to hear somebody sound a faint cavalry charge just behind your left ear, that'll be me, LOL ta rah ta TAH! GO! :-)

On the plus side, the ortho surgeon seems confident he can fix that disc and get rid of the pain my mom has been having... that would be a wonderful Christmas gift!

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Sorry to hear the injection didn't help your mom, Jill. Is the surgery scheduled yet?

We're still planning on going on Sunday but right now we're watching the weather forecast. It might not be a very good travel day.
Our youngest son just moved his departure for Vermont back to Saturday (instead of Sunday) to try to get to the slopes between snow storms. Of course, he is thrilled to see it snowing up there. . . .

Metro DC, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh, that's right, I'd forgotten about the storm. Could be ice from PA North, right?

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Yep, Mom's surgery is scheduled for Monday, not sure what time...

I'm watching the forecast too, trying to decide if I can take a bus on Saturday as I'd like or if I need to wait until Sunday or run around like a maniac in order to catch a bus up tomorrow afternoon...

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Gita, If I have it right that makes 7 for the tour. I'll D-mail everyone my cell phone # just in case there are any problems or changes.
Critter hope all goes well with your Mom. I know it's so hard when they live farther away. My Mom is doing very well I was up yesterday and called today. I'm not sure what the weather will do in the next few days but today the roads are good. All the trees and power lines are covered with ice but the roads are just wet no ice yet.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks! I think I may just try to catch the afternoon bus tomorrow, then no worries about snow or sleet over the weekend... once I'm there, I'm there. :-)

Have fun! Take pictures!!

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Holly,

It is cold and dreary and I think some kind of front may come down from W. PA by Sunday.

I sure hope that doesn't keep people from coming! We have already lost a few "maybes"....

I will go regardless, unless NOBODY comes! Might go even than.....

Gita

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Gita, I guess we will have to have a wait and see attitude. Rain or snow isn't likely to keep me home when driving locally, but it can really add a lot of extra drive time to a longer trip. My friend will likely not come if the weather is bad she lives north of me up in the mountains, with a very nasty road in and out of her area. I'll send everyone on the list my cell phone #. That way I'll be alittle more easy to communicate with. We certainly wouldn't want any one out driving in bad weather. And we can check this thread on Sunday morning before leaving. How does that sound?

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Well I sent my cell phone # to Gita, Nutmegnana & Jxstiger. Weather is still iffy, looks like we are just on the edge guess we'll just see what the morning brings.
Wrightie should be down there today doing her run. Good luck Wrightie hope the run goes well and your hoofs holdup. Holly

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Holly,

I just got home from a party. it has been drizzling all evening but is above freezing.

Will see tomorrow!

Gita

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Just got up,

It is just rainy. nothing freezing.

I believe if anything worse will happen, it will be later today,

Gita

Adamstown, MD(Zone 6b)

Same here. Drizzle but not freezing. If we are still a go, we will leave a little before 10. I still have my cold so I'll try not to infect anybody. I sound a whole lot worse than I feel -- I'm definitely on the tail end of it. Might not do the 34th Street walk if it is windy and raining . . . .

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Yipee, We are headed down. Ice is covering all the trees and power lines but the roads are just wet. We are getting a little bit of a slow start Ric cut wood all day yesterday and was up half the night. He isn't moving very well yet this morning & I worked last night and never got to bed till about 2:30 but we are getting it together. We'll be leaving shortly I have my cell phone you can reach me on that. Holly

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

We had a small but great group. A wonderful tour, nice lunch and a good time had by all. Gita, Nutmegnanna & husband Ron, my husband Ric & I. Just the 5 of us but it was so nice to see Gita again and meet Nutmegnanna for the first time.
Turns out Jxstiger lost their electric and couldn't make it. I will be starting a new thread with some pictures from the tour. Didn't get a chance to start it last night as our DSL was down but I will try to do that today and will post a link when I get it done.
