CLOSED: Strange mating?

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

I have thought these were two different species, but after watching for a while and taking several pictures, I don't know for sure what is happening.

Can someone help me out here?

Thanks, trois

It looks like the male still has his claspers on her. The male Common Green Darners, that looks like them, will continue to hold her while she lays eggs. This is insurance that no other male will capture her and fertilize the eggs.

Another great shot!

Thanks again, fly_girl. He had his claspers on her for several hours.
