Hi,
Up until now I have only grown lilies in containers. I just divided my lilies, and ended up with a lot of extra bulbs. If I plant them in the ground, do I have to worry about them becoming invasive?
Are oriental lilies invasive?
No, they will stay where you plant them. It's a good idea to separate out extra bulbs like you are doing. That way they won't get too crowded. But they won't spread out from where you plant them and are also very unlikely to spread from seed. I'm surprised you say you have many extra bulbs. Oriental lilies are typically slow to increase in number.
You know, I was just noticing so many extra little oriental bulbs from a couple containers that I do for my sister who lives in a condo. They multipled beautifully over the summer on her deck in those cute little pots. I haven't ever seen soooo very many little oriental bulbs, as I had when I took her lilies out of the pot to get them ready to give to a public garden. It has made me think about doing a few pots up for myself next year. The roots on those bulbs were amazing...Buggy Crazy-like.
Besides that, it's a good way to have more lilies ;)
Wow, oriental lilies - what a terrible thing to have become "invasive"!!!!!!!!!! LOL
LOL In my dreams!
I'd definitely take an oriental lily take over opposed to garlic mustard. lol!
Thank you! Then I will be planting them out tomorrow!
Invasive..... I wish
inanda
Invasive? heck, I'd just be happy if the darn things lived more than a few years in my beds!
I agree with the above sentiments and wish they were invasive. What a glorious "problem" to have instead of the dreaded Houttuynia cordata 'Chameleon'!!!
Me too.
