Texas Renaissance Festival

Thank you so much. I've done beaded jewelry, but never actually crafted the beads myself. I'd love to try that some time. Connie and I have talked about setting up something to do it, but it's awful expensive to get started. The closest I have ever come to silversmithing was several years ago when my youngest daughter and I went to the Art Studio and did aluminum casting. That was a lot of fun. I'm not very good at drawing though, so my work was very crude. I did an American Flag. It was a fun project to do with a 10 year old.

You should check out the new Artisans Cafe. Post some of your work there. We'd love to have you come visit us and show us your craft. It's just opened up this past week and the artists are coming out of the woodwork around here. It's wonderful. We're already on page 3.

Quoting:
Dh is getting a mig welder for Christmas...maybe he'll let me borrow it.lol
Show him our threads and show him that women can weld too! HAHAHA

Are you talking making glass beads? I've seen it done, is it called "glassworks"? Looks like a lot fun!

Metal working equipment is way expensive, I know. The great thing about the school i went through was they had an (unspoken) open door policy. The studio and equipment was available to students during all hours once you had a proven safety record. Plus being a student allowed to use to purchase equipment, metals and stones wholesale with SWEST. You should see if if a collage around you offers any courses just for the perks and discounts.

I've been meaning to post some paintings on the Arts forum, just not enough hours in the day.lol

Well please don't be shy. Make some time. I can promise that you'll be rewarded with big smiles and much appreciation. Everyone is welcome there. We're always up for learning new crafts.

I think I will have to see what Lamar offers. I hadn't thought about all of those benefits you mentioned. (Can you see the wheels of my mind turning?) HAHAHA

This morning, I posted a link in the bird watching forum about the Birds of Prey act with lots of photos. Resin, the resident bird expert, was kind enough to ID the birds for me. If you'd like to see more of these birds, please check out the thread. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/787292/

Thanks for the memories, Unique Treasures. It was my first time at the Ren Festival and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it. I'm back in NC now but that was the best day of my visit to see my brother and family. Next year I plan on having a costume, what, I'm not sure.

It's funny that you mention costumes. I've spent the past 25 years trying to get my husband to go to the Festival. He's a hunter, and this falls in the midst of hunting season, so given the choice of one or the other, hunting has always won out. This past week, I've heard him say several times, "Next time we go, we'll go in costume." This, from my ultra conservative husband is a very telling sign of how cool the festival really is.

Who knows??? Maybe some day, Connie and I will have our own place in the Reniassance making sculptures on the grounds, taking custom orders. We gals can dream, right? HAHAHAHA

Jus when I think you two have done it all. Here you come again. Not only is the sculpture great but the website is too. Can't wait for the next installment.

Thanks Christy. It's been a lot of fun making the website. Thank heavens I've taken so many photos as we went along.

Nice items. I used to have a store for 17 years in Cambridge Mass. and sold lots of handmade items, including jewelry. I would expand on your bugs for the garden or where ever. I happen to love metal items. Keep to a theme or two or three...and expand on that. Don't just dream about having a booth at the Ren Fest. You can do it. Just take action!!!!!

Thanks fancyflea for your encouragement and your appreciation of our work.

As much fun as it would be to set up there at the festival, I just can't see Connie or I spending the 8 weekends in a row there, so far from home. We both have others that depend on us at home. But it was fun to dream for a little while. :-)
