I just received some gloriosa seeds, and was wondering how to best start them. Also have filed a little notch in the moonflower seeds, which were harder and thicker than I´d expected. How long will it take for the lily seeds to become adult bulbs? Am I an idiot for having begun this way? I have yet to see any bulbs for sale online.thanx,Patsy
gloriosa lily
I will watch your thread. I've no seed experience and only done these by tubers. They are pretty flowers and wish you luck.
as I am now ssearching for info about propagation of distictis buccinatoria, have come upon my unfinished thread. I haad great luck thanks to answers and info in this forum, kept the seeds for germination upon the router for our pc, as it had a constant temp around 22.5. From 5 seeds I now have 4 spindley little plants, which I imagine come summer will advance quite a lot. Not bad for a beginner!
I have some gloriosa seeds to start. How long did it take, did you nick them and anything else you learned, please?
Hi twiggybuds,
I've started a few seeds recently using the baggie method. I put the bag on top of my refrigerator. It took more than a month to germinate, but I am now the proud owner of about 10 baby Gloriosa lilies.
Good luck,
Elsa
Does anyone know if they will bloom from seed the first year?
Well, here I did all I was supposed to and all of a sudden, in their pot, the gloriosa plantlets just died down. Now I´m wondering if they are having a little rest between growth periods, or have died for sure. what did do beautifully, and I now have it up against the swimming pool fence is the Moon flower. AND some vigna caracalla purchased at Park seed dwindled to one plant which I´ve just put out into the garden. does anyone know who will send, within Europe, Gloriosa bulbs? that seems the ideal way to grow them.
Did they bloom? The Gloriosa lily? Mine started and died many times in the first two years but never bloomed. I don't have the answer. I would say don't throw them out. Mine now come back annually.

Good Lord, no, they didn´t bloom, as they only grewe to about 6 inches. I´ve just sifted through the pot, and found something that looks like a yellowish grub.Could that be a bulb? I´ve promptly replanted as is, in the hopes that it will sprout again sometime.
I think what you have will put on new growth and deliver blooms next year for you. I don't have the answer but I was going to give some to the gal that tends my pets and plants while we are on vacation. All I could find was what you described. No tubers (which is what I planted) but they still bloom each spring. With patience, you should see blooms next year. Would love to know why they don't form tubers!
