ditch lilies

Tucson, AZ

I am having a hard time trying to find vendors to buy ditch lilies. I have a spot by a slope that they would really be good for erosion control in Bisbee.

Hi there!

Do you mean the big orange ones that grow in a big grassy clump? If that's what you are looking for, those are actually a species of Daylily. I think the double ones are called Kwanso. You might try the daylily forum for suggestions. If that isn't what you're looking for, what do the ones you're trying to find look like? There are folks here who specialize in collecting native species lilies and I'm sure the smart lily people can help you find some.

No one buys ditchlilies, they just dig them up out of the ditches! They are very aggressive and will grow in most any climate.

Contact me in the spring. I keep a big patch isolated from my other beds and always have more than enough to share.
