ipomoea hederifolia var. lutea ?

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Is this variety considered a perennial? How long until it blooms? I had to bring mine inside, no blooms and I started it last April. Great growth on it but no signs of flowers yet...

This is an annual and you should have had bunches of blooms. I've no idea why you haven't especially if you started yours in April. Mine always bloom like crazy. Did you only plant one vine?

Emma, one vine, with a nice size root to boot. Here is a picture of it. Did I get ripped off and it's not what I think it is?

This one wasn't particularity a late bloomer....I think it started in July. For me it was an annual and died back after it set seedpods.

Beth was yours in a pot or the ground? Mine is in a pot, think it would make a difference?

Oh, mine was in a pot too. I don't know why yours didn't bloom, it should have! Individual genetics could play a part...I would try again next year.

Ronnie - Ipomoea hederifolia is usually an annual but the fact that it has not yet bloomed may enable it to continue to live inside until it does flower...but if the plant is planted directly in the ground and not able to be moved/dug up without significant root damage >then it's a goner when the hard freezes finally do arrive...

You could try to root some cuttinmgs if you want to try and grow some rooted cuttings indoors...

Thanks Ron, Beth and Emma, I did bring it in but it is starting to loose it's leaves. I am trying to root some too. I wonder why it didn't bloom? I'll give it a good shot of bloom booster in the morning.

Very strange that you didn't get blooms. This MG blooms almost instantly after it takes off.

Do you need more seeds?

If you just HAVE to grow this over the winter I still have seedlings EVERYWHERE.
Let me know and I'll pot some up for you.

Thanks Emma, no more seeds but I do have a few pieces getting tiny roots so if my main plant doesn't make it I have some back up!!
