Okay, I am copying Beth here, got the idea from her Ugly thread.
Which MG would you not grow, even if they gave you seeds..?? here are mine and Why..
1. White Reverse Tube... It takes so much attention and NO SEEDS, even by handpollinating it.
2. Kawaii - that thing did not grow at all, bloomed very few times, and NO SEEDS, not even with help.
3. Pink Purpureas - Something about those that I don't like, besides not blooming, and they take soooo long ... and seem to appear everywhere under every name in the book.
I'm sure I can think of others later on, but will go check my growth notes to see what has happened.
ADVICE.. everyone, and I mean everyone, should try to hand pollinate their flowers. I am amazed at the amount of seeds that I got from the I. nils.
Photo of Akasuki no Yuki in 2005 in Southern California and I did not get one seed... so don't be afraid to try.
Your Worst Nightmare??
I didn't care for my 'Hirosaki' (purchase name) funny leaves and every flower was distorted or funny shaped. Others loved it though!! LOL
I had a split one named 'Ishdatatane' pretty but didn't thrill me and it gave me seeds. Guess I'll be trading them!!
I agree with Kawaii, didn't do much for me either..
The striped ones are nice but there are so many now with different names, and they kind of all look alike!!
Being new to MGs and enjoying all of them ... I haven't grown a MG I didn't like .... yet. But I am reading this thread with much interest in the lists from each of you! :-)
Well, it wasn't a nightmare exactly, but I sure could have done with a few less of those crimson ramblers...they must have come from the "mix" morning glory packet I had. LOL. I'm really too new at this to be discerning, however, so I can't complain....all in all I was just happy to see ANY of them bloom.

I have seeds, but am not sure I'll ever grow Pearly Gates. It looks so much like my wild Calystegia sepium that I keep thinking....why bother?
Also, I'm not that thrilled with the Sunsmile series of MGs. The plants are just too small to suit me.

How exactly do you hand pollinate?
Portia,
here is a great beginner's guide, there are also other pages to this book on this site.. here is where I started, you must first learn the parts of the morning glory then ... the rest will come..''
I love this site. It has been recommended by Ron, Emma and others here.. I even printed the pages and some I have laminated to be able to know what everyone is talking about.
