Berries for Viburnum Chipewa

North Shore of L. I., NY(Zone 6b)

I have an absolutely gorgeous shrub of viburman Chipewa that I bought locally at half price late in fall about 3 years ago. It had berries on it when I first bought it but not since then because I didn't have a pollinator. It would bloom early, and finish before any of the Viburnum dilatatums I have opened up any flowers. It was frustrating because it is the heavest flowering viburnum I have, always so covered in flowers in spring that its hard to believe there could be so many. I knew that Huron was the pollinator for it but could never find one locally to buy.

Well, I went for it and bought the oversized 5 gallon size (complete with extra shipping surcharge) from Forest Farm and I am so glad I did. I got a nice tall shrub that already had some berries on it so I know it should flower next year. I planted it next to the Chipewa and although its not anywhere near as full, it is not too very much shorter. My Chipewa always grew more out than up.

I can't wait for the flowers and fruit next year! Should have done this sooner.
