i have to share!
1. i am in an immoilizer due to rotator surgery-can't do squat and its my right arm too
2. typing this one letter at a time whew
on way home loaded up w/ drawing architect table in pick up i saw tree sale
sign,made dh turn around.
spoke w/ owner, ed underwood- a gum chomping big ol michigan boy who woods
in the winter to keep family going and is a quietly understated freakin cert.
landscape architect. his nursery supports 50 employees and their families. you
never know who you will meet in life and i was honoured yesterday to make
a nice purchase from these folks and son who has just graduated from iona
college w/ business degree and is home now helping family.
my happy dance is for a large, lush
hinoki cypress nana omg she is so beauteous fat green lush and big,3' and b and b'd.
cercidiphyllum japonicun pendula 5' b and b'd strong weepy rooty amazing
pinus strobus penduka 6' staked leader b and b'd flailing ponderously with embarresingly
good long branches and healthy rich needles.
now, according to michael dirr, i need 2 more of the pinus to make my statement.
i love his priceless descriptions and i originally fell on the floor laughing from the
p. pendula description, so today as i was rechecking hortcultural info, i realized i
had purchased the beginnings of my triad. :)))
ed threw on 6 5 gallon rhoadies to go home w/ us amd 1/2 bu. peat no charge.
these were michigan grown and nurtured in their tree nursery from certified named
stock ie; covey for cercis and guaranteed. ok,our fortune was we got about
$1,000 worth of outstanding quality landscaping stock for $300. and just the day
before, i had sold oNe of our wedding gown packages for 400$. ez come,ez go.
tonight dh will auger holes and plant my new beauties.
thank you all for listening to our happy adventure

Sounds wonderful...and lucky you to have such good help with the planting. I've been working on a pseudo dirr inspired shrub border for 3 years...

Wow - plant envy here (BTW I grew up in Lake Odessa MI). DH just had rotator cuff surgery in June. Doing good - now. I had foot surgery 10/4 and now non weight bearing in a cast until Dec 15th. If it aint one thing its another I swear. Try planting fall bulbs draggin your rear`end around on the ground. Anywho - What rhodies did you get? They must be some tough varieties to do well in your zone. . I'd really like to know.
i buy lots of rh.
see van veen nursery in our dg watchdog and tell them i sent you.
dr. rupert good

amend soil w peat if possible wrap 1st year mulch also
i cant get out to see who made it over the summer here,
which is harsher than the winters. i lost about 15 and
maybe 30 survived this first spring and summer.
