I like the unique hairs on the bud and resulting back side of the corolla too! Nice pictures, Beth! - Arlan

Oh they are pretty together!

Finally after a year, Ron's Xenostegia is starting to put out teeny tiny buds .. I guess I'll be waiting for months too before they get to the blooming point.

More photos that Ron wanted of the inner and outer sepals.

show what is apparently a peduncular cluster forming as there are way more than the usual 5 sepals...also the usually distinct separation of the lower edges of the sepals seems to have retained some undifferentiated tissue >which is very unusual...(!)

What plant does the smooth peduncle in the following photo belong to
http://pics.davesgarden.com/pics/ByndeweedBeth_1194283401_567.jpg
it doesn't seem to belong to the I.crassipes(!?)...

Is it possible to see some side and rear views showing an open flower with the hairs visible along the ribs....(?)

Thanks(!)...

I have parasitica and crassipes growing together up by the ceiling. They just took off and intertwined.

Here is the seedpod getting to the mature point.

Just when you think they are ready to pick, they explode and shoot the seeds across the room! The seeds are tethered together in pairs with white silk binding them together.

Here is an empty seedpod showing how the membrane divides them into pairs.

Almost forgot to post the fat portion of the crassipes root.

Hi Beth - Great photos...the membrane dividing the inner capsule into sections is the locule wall...

I'm wondering if the seeds have any hairs fringed along the edges(?)

Good that you were able to locate the seeds after they were dispersed by the exploding capsule...You might want to consider something like the little seed-catchers made out of fine netting that Gourd made to catch the seeds of Ipomoea marginata which also have the exploding type of seed capsules...

Gourd did send me some netting seed catchers so I'm going to start using them on this plant. It's going to make a lot of seeds and FAST. parasitica set seeds a month before crassipes and the crassipes seeds are already mature first. I need to scan the seeds to look for a hairy fringe beneath the silk.

I don't think this plant is an annual since it is making a tuber. Why would it store up nutrients if it was preparing to die off?
