Hi ladyblues1965,

I don't know their names, but the first and third ones are Ipomoea nil and the second one is Ipomoea purpurea. Others better at the varietal names will help, I'm sure! - Arlan

Only three pictures posted when first responded! Edited to correct and add that the fourth pic is I.nil and the fifth is I. purpurea with what may be a I.nil on the right....

Hello ladyblues 1965, 1 and 3 are large flower variety nils. 2 and 5 are the ipomea purpurea 4 is also a ipomea nil and appears to be a small flower type of mix. I`m not big on names either. They are all very pretty ones too!

From what I have learned from Ron on this forum, I concur with Arlan on the species. Perhaps looking in PlantFiles or doing an internet search you might find an ID for some of them if you search by Ipomoe nil or Ipomoea purpurea. Whatever they are, they are sure beautiful!

Hi, These are some questions that might help you with ID. Did you keep your reciepts or your seed packets?Did you buy commercial packets or did they come from a open pollinated source?

Here is a helpful link to some commercial seed packets.

Judging only by what they look like and the color without facts on their backgrounds or remembering where they came from would be guessing their ID.

You can test them by tying blooms and growing again to see if they will come back true.

Some varieties like white spoked ones called youjiros can carry for other colors and have variations like a solid bloom can appear from time to time. I belive all of the varieties can carry surprises in their genes that can show up from time to time. This is normal and you can select and weed these out if you want to continue with the white spoked flowers or a certain color you prefer.

#2 and 5 look like Sydney

The other ones (nils) could go by so many names....

Thanks folks I appreciate the help.
I thought the Blue star might have been Sydney but I wasnt sure. It has white or very light seeds.
the others who knows but they were sure pretty.

Yes, they do favor Sydney and they also do have the light seeds. I hesitate to give definite ID by pictures but this one does appear to be Sydney or close enough for me. Others are free to come to different conclusions of course. Pictures can be"off" in color and details can be a bit distorted even in good pictures. My sydneys have a lighter throat than yours but that wouldn`t necessarily mean they were not Sydney. I`m beginning to believe these purpureas can have some acceptable variations within reason just like some of the nils. Keep in mind that is a novice opinion of two years morning glory experience. I`m experienced as a gardener but have become concentrated on morning glories the last two years.
