Best MGs for SC7B?

Anderson, SC(Zone 7b)

I am in awe at the varieties of exquisite MGs there are! I have never been interested in MGs because I thought there were only the few little basic ones I'd seen when I was younger. But with the tough little volunteers that grew in my top soil delivery with no water or food, and the time I've spent in this forum looking at your pics in amazement, I've decided I need to grow these!

Can you help me out with the best ones to grow in my area, with highs averaging high 80s & 90s?

-- Are there any that will bloom here from Spring thru Fall?

-- If not, what will grow in what seasons?

-- I've just put in clematis on a chain link fence; would it be safe to grow these along with it next year?

Thanks for any help!! :)))

Welcome Newbie! And I see you really are a newbie since you just joined up in August! I've been here a year, so I am a bit of a newbie myself!

My advice from my own personal experience of just recently growing MGs for the very first time is to GO For IT!!!

I tried growing some directly sown into the ground in one of my garden beds. I don't have the best soil conditions because we have more sand than anything here in Florida, but they did quite well. The summer heat ended them quicker here because we had drought conditions until September. I bet you are in a good location to grow some in the Spring and Summer 2008. Many folks here grow them inside during the colder months. I might try one this winter myself! :-)

Yes! They will grow great on a chain link fence. In your zone, most cultivars will grow well in Spring and Summer after the last frost. And Yes! You can grow them right along with Clematis! It would probably look very pretty!!
