crepe myrtle seeds

Gilmer, TX(Zone 8a)

I have a pink crepe myrtle tree that my son gave me for my birthday several years ago. I am going to be moving and want to take some of the seeds with me. (I'd take the whole tree if it wasn't so stinkin" bib)
Anyway, I don't know what the seeds look like or where they are on the tree.
Can anyone help me. The tree is really special to me and I just want to start one from it.

Here's a picture for you--these will form where the flowers were. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/2151/

But your crape myrtle is most likely a hybrid cultivar, so it probably won't come true from seed, so the plants you grow from the seeds may not look like the parent. If you really want a tree just like the one you have, your best bet would be to start it from cuttings instead.

What ecrane says is true. I had several Crape Myrtles "self seed" - they do grow very easily from seed...but look at the little lavender one in the picture that came up out of nowhere - obviously from seed - and then try to figue out who the parents are!!!

I figured it wouldn't be just like it. It will just mean a lot to me to know where it came from, There are pods on the limbs, but they are still green, do I wait until they are brown?
Also, how do I do cuttings?

You are all so sweet and helpful. I'm going to have the most georgeous yard in the town. Well, at least on the country road I live on.

The pods will turn brown and burst open to release the seeds. It might help to tie a plastic grocery bag around the seed heads, that way when they open the seeds will fall into the bag.

Another downside to seedlings is that they may not have resistance to aphids and powdery mildew. Ya never know though.

Found them. I love the idea of putting the bag over them. I'm going to do it right now. I figure they might now even come up, but I like to try, so here I go

I'd probably try to start a few cuttings too, that way if the seeds don't germinate for you you'll have a backup (plus the cuttings will look exactly like the plant you have, which could be a plus)
