PNWLS got bulbs yet?

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Anyone? or do they wait for fall meeting? I know I am impatient.

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

I thought I read that they were to be shipped out late this week or early next?? I may have to take time off from work to get the into the ground. :) Such a chore. :) LOL

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

I have most of my bulbs in. We are sort of looking for another house, not sure what to do if we would find one in the spring? I couldn't not buy lilies because of a mere house move :*)

I thought they may wait for the meeting.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

They went out yesterday:-) Got mine today!

That means I could get mine tomorrow ;) Monday at the latest... Ooooh, pard is the new owner of 'Pink Flares'. That one sounded really nice.

pard, thanks for the update. We count on you, you know. ;)

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the up-date. It's supposed to be 67 here on Tuesday, and so you know I'm going to be playing hooky from work... ;)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Got mine today! Hooray!

Fenton, MO(Zone 6b)

Got mine today. Any body else pick up the tetra sampler mix from Judith?

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Is the sampler mix 1 bulb or 5 for $9?

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Yep 1 bulb for $9

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Did you bite, magnolia?

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Mine didn't arrive yet. *sniff* *sniff* Oh well, they will be here next week! :)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

You know pard, I would have bit if I could pick the color. I bought a melon tetra last fall and if I got to pick, I'd have picked pink tetra this year or green tetra (that was offered last year). So instead I opted for 'Pink Flares' and no tetra trumpet.

Did you bite pard?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Of course not. I'm not gonna pay 9 bucks for a pig in a poke lol. But if one doesn't care about the color I guess it's ok. On the other hand if I were to spend another 9 bucks I would spend it with buggy; bulbs are much fresher!! (and bigger).

I've been cleaning my seeds today. Managed to get some OTs with embryo's. Silk Road was the most fertile of all...

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

So the tetra "sampler" is a shot in the dark as far as color? :*( I think the use of the word "sampler" is incorrect. Dictionary.com: "a collection of samples" :*)

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I didn't get one either. There were several leftover at the meeting today, as well. They were good-sized bulbs, but not anywhere close to Buggy-size. Seemed to me that a mixed lot should be cheaper, and more than one bulb, even if it was a tetra.

In general, there were actually quite a few more leftovers than I'd expected to see-mostly Lily Garden cultivars. Even leftovers of pink flares, so I decided to add one of those. (I have absolutely no willpower when it comes to lilies, apparently. )

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I agree. I'm sure there was no intention to deceive; just poor wording. It would have been better worded perhaps: tetra mix, $9/bulb. Actually, in the bulb sale catalog, on the first page of C-P lilies, it says "Bulbs sold singly, priced as indicated".

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

Hey, I'm just thrilled that you all will let those of us not in the PNW join your PNWLS, and ship us bulbs. :) Quite nice of you all. :)

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I bought a melon tetra last year (should have gone for green too) as they offered them by color and stated which ones had a more limited number.....and the price was better, I think it was $6 or $7

Vancouver, WA(Zone 8a)

I agree with Pard-I definitely don't think there was any bad intent. I think you're right about the word choice. "Assorted" or "Mix" would not have conjured the image of a "value pack" or set the way "Sampler" does. I've seen several bulb samplers lately that are bunches of several alliums, or mixed tulips or whatever, so that is what I expect when I see "Sampler".

Last year's $6 colored tet trumpets were from Ed McRae. I did get the green one. It wasn't very green. But they are from a strain of greenish trumpets so I'll do some work with it. I have some other "green" trumpet seedlings grown from NALS seeds. I really want some green trumpets (not there yet) :(

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I actually thought mine didn't look too melon-y either. I can't recall now, but I recall it looking yellow and I thought I may have had a vision disturbance. Lol!

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Well selling lilies isn't exactly a mass market thing. I think every lily grower takes their "artistic" liberty when trying to market a certain lily with a certain trait.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

But no matter what, I'm always in the market ;)

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Remember that the colored tet trumpets from last year were all seedlings from strains so there can be a lot of variation. This is more my idea of a melon trumpet. From last year, the one I called "pink-edged melon". It wasn't yellow or orange colored, but that hard to describe yellow-orange with a hint of pink mixed in. It seems to have disappeared this year. It was so nice...

Is that a 2n?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Yup.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

I still like that one called Shanondoah (sp?) that is on the PNWLS website. I keep hoping to get something similar. pard, that one is nice. It really disappeared??

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

I asked about 'Shenandoah' on the Yahoo list but got no responses :*( Is Ed out of commission permanently?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

The melon one seems to have disappeared. I think I set too much seed on it. Remember last year when I sent all that seed out? I hope the recipients get some lilies that are just as nice. That one made quite a few bulblets. In fact it made bulblets on the scales that were growing on the bulb in the ground. Weird. I saved a few and potted them up but they languished over the summer. I don't know if they are still alive. I hope they are.

As for Shenandoah, I don't know anything about that one. I'll try to find out about it. Unfortunately, I missed the meeting today where I might have learned something about Ed.

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Your trumpet seedlings take up a good part of my lily bed. I hope to have several blooms in 2008.

Southern, WI(Zone 5a)

Thank you for sharing your seeds , pard. I had a lot of fun with it and I still have a couple left over from last season, like Donut. I also should mention that I got a whole lot more germination from your seeds, as compared to that of the NALS seeds.

I love the coloration in Shenandoah. Maybe, like so many lilies, the colors wouldn't be as prominent here in the midwest, but it still is gorgeous.

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

Oh, a light bulb went off in my head about Shenandoah. It's a STRAIN of tetraploid trumpets from Dr. Greisbach. He sold the rights to a large group of tets to Park's back in the 90's. The color groupings were named after national parks. I swear I saw it offered in the PNWLs sale a few years back. I don't see it in the catalogs I have saved but I am missing both from 2004 and spring '05. If anyone has those (Spring and Fall, 2004 and Spring 2005) could you please look and see if Shenandoah was available?

Oh that Donut lily disappeared also. I went looking for it and it's a gonner for sure. Probably not so much because of seed set (it was not very fertile) but because of winter flooding. Survival of the fittest here. And I see the empty spaces as new opportunities.

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Does anyone have a picture of Cheops?

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

What division is Cheops in?:

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Oriental

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I already found it in the PN da da da catalog. You ordered it? It sounds pretty...

Fox River Valley Are, WI(Zone 5a)

Yes, it would be nice to see :*)
Regarding the tetra trumpets, and other lilies for that matter, it is a shame how a nice lily shows up and only stays around for a short while. There have been several that I have seen that are no longer available commercially :*(

Willamette Valley, OR(Zone 8a)

I agree. And you have to watch those dutch guys. They'll take a lily off the market and recycle the name to a new lily, causing confusion about availability. Anyway, The description of Cheops sounds Tom Pouce like with maybe a bit of a broader yellow band and some spotting...

Lisbon, IA(Zone 5a)

this is what I've come accross for a picture of "Cheops"
